Technical
Vocational Education
Quarter 4 - Module 3
Step in Constructing Auxiliary View
(Technical Drawing 8)
Introductory Message

This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, dear learners, can
continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions, directions,
exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.

Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-step
as you discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.

Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons in each SLM.
This will tell you if you need to proceed on completing this module or if you need to
ask your facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the
lesson. At the end of each module, you need to answer the post-test to self-check
your learning. Answer keys are provided for each activity and test. We trust that
you will be honest in using these.

In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teachers are also provided
to our facilitators and parents for strategies and reminders on how they can best
help you on your home-based learning.

Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any part of
this SLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercise and tests. Read
the instructions carefully before performing each task.

If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficulty in answering the tasks
in this module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator.

Thank you.
What I Need to Know

This module provides various activities that will help you review your knowledge
and skills about auxiliary view. This will also help you to learn its practical uses and
applications that would be very essential in our succeeding lessons.
Note: Grade 7-10: text 11pt; heads 15pt; subheads 11pt to 13pt; art-to-text ratio 30%:70%;
At the end of this module, you are expected to:
body text justified; use Arial, Times New Roman or Bookman Old Style
• define auxiliary view;

• identify the used of the three basic types of auxiliary view; and

• follow the steps in constructing auxiliary view

What I Know
Directions: Study the given statements below. Check (√) all the boxes pertaining to
of auxiliary views and cross out (X) if otherwise.

1. Study the given orthographic views. Identify the type of auxiliary view used for
the given problem.
2. From the inclined surface draw two straight lines at 90o.
3. Partial – existing only in part; incomplete.
4. Transfer all dimensions of the object on the lines projected from the inclined
surface.
5. Draw additional construction line projected from the marking of the
measurements.
6. Draw out the object lines from the construction lines to show the auxiliary
views.
7. Complete – having all the necessary or appropriate parts.
8. Inclined – leaning or turning away from the vertical or horizontal; sloping.
9. Right angle – is an angle that contains 90 degrees.
10. The farther the object, lines, edges, and the smaller it appears.
11. Auxiliary – providing supplementary or additional help and support.
12. Exact – not approximated in any way; precise.
13. True – accurate or exact.
14. The object can view in terms of bird’s eye view, eye level, and ants’ view.
15. All receding lines converge on a vanishing point.

1
What’s In

An auxiliary view is simply a “helper” view, which shows the slanted part of the object
as it actually is. It turns, or projects, the object so that the true size and shape of the surface
(or surfaces) are seen as they actually are.
In the three main views or orthographic projection, the true shape and size of an
inclined surface is not clearly shown, so in order to show it, an auxiliary view is needed to be
presented.
Before proceeding to our next lesson, let us gauge your knowledge on the previous
module. Please classify whether the following needs an auxiliary view or not by writing YES
or NO on the space provided.

____1. _____2.

_____3. _____4.

_____5.

If you got a perfect score, you are undeniably correct about the different types
of auxiliary drawing.
As an explanation for those who had a hard time identifying the questions;
numbers 2,3 and 5, are the illustrations that needed auxiliary view. On the contrary,
numbers 1, and 4 doesn’t need.

2
What’s New
Remember the boy that was mentioned in the previous module? Yes, you have
applied auxiliary view in assisting and solving the problems of that boy. You can help more
people and further improve your knowledge and skills on drawing.

The boy is now happy and confident about his new learning. He was able to identify
and trace the problems with regard to his drawing through your help and assistance. He is no
longer problematic and confused.

Directions: Using different colors, identify and shade the cloud of the drawing that solved
the problems of the boy. You can use any coloring materials.

3
What is It

There are times when one of the six principal views will not completely describe
an object. This is especially true when there are inclined or oblique planes or features
on an object. For these cases, a special orthographic view called an auxiliary view
can be created.

When creating engineering drawings, it is often necessary to show features in

a view where they appear true size so that they can be dimensioned. The object is
normally positioned such that the major surfaces and features are either parallel or
perpendicular to the principal planes. Views are normally selected so that most of the
features will be visible in the three principal views. The front, top, and left or right-side
views are most commonly drawn.

When an object has a slanted or inclined surface, it usually is not possible to

show the inclined surface in an orthographic drawing without distortion. To present a
more accurate description of any inclined surface, an additional view, known as an
auxiliary view, is usually required.

Auxiliary views are commonly found on many types of industrial drawings.

Auxiliary Views

An auxiliary view is simply a “helper” view, which shows the slanted part of the
object as it actually is. It turns, or projects, the object so that the true size and shape
of the surf ace (or surfaces) are seen as they actually are.
In the three main views or orthographic projection, the true shape and size of an
inclined surface is not clearly shown, so in order to show it, an auxiliary view is needed
to be presented.
In the three main views or orthographic projection, the true shape and size of
an inclined surface is not clearly shown, so in order to show it, an auxiliary view is
needed to be presented.

4
Two Options in drawing auxiliary views

1. Partial Auxiliary – refers only to the inclined surface of the object.

2. Complete Auxiliary – refers to the whole view that can be seen in viewing
inclined surface.

Three Basic Types of Auxiliary Views

Front View Auxiliaries

There are three basic types of auxiliary views. In the first type, the auxiliary view
is projected from the front view of a three view (orthographic) drawing. In the second
and third types of drawings, the auxiliary views are projected from the top and side
views.

Top View Auxiliaries

A top view auxiliary is developed in the same way as a front view auxiliary,
except that the auxiliary is projected from the top view.

Whether the auxiliary view is to be projected from the front, top, or side view
depends on the position of the object, or which surface of the object is slanted. In this
example, the top view is slanted. Therefore, the auxiliary view must be protected from
the top view.

Side View Auxiliary

Side view auxiliaries are drawn in the same way as front and top view
auxiliaries. Again, where the auxiliary view is to be projected depends upon the
position of the object or which surface of the object is slanted.

5
AUXILIARY VIEWS

Procedure:
1. Study the given orthographic views. Identify the type of auxiliary view used
for the given problem.

2. From the inclined surface draw two straight lines at 90 o

3. Transfer all dimensions of the object on the lines projected from the inclined
surface.

6
4. Draw additional construction line projected from the marking of the
measurements.

5. Draw out the object lines from the construction lines to show the auxiliary
views.
