THE WORD ON THE CROSS 1

THE SEVEN SAYINGS OF CHRIST ON THE CROSS

1. Text: Luke 23:32-34 - Biyi Adekoya
Forgiveness: Jesus offers forgiveness in the midst of His greatest
suffering.

2. Text: Luke 23:39-43 - Matthew Oluwamuleya
Assurance: When He was hung on the cross, Jesus was placed in
between two criminals. The salvation of the thief was not an
accident, it was divinely appointed.

3. Text: John 19:26-27 - Daniel Amedu
Compassion: The cross rebukes our worldliness, cheap values, and
selfish ambition.

4. Text: Matthew 27:45-47 - Ufuoma Odorige
Loneliness: While on the cross, surrounded by darkness, Jesus
called out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Jesus’ cry
of loneliness and rejection may be a surprise to us, but He suffered
the cross for you and for me.

5. Text: John 19:28-29 - Martins Alekhojie
Obedience: Jesus drank the cup of sin for all of mankind. “I thirst,”
spoke of both a physical and spiritual thirst. He was taking upon
Himself the punishment of hell for us.

6. Text: John 19:29-30 - Samuel Haruna
Victory: “It is finished” was a cry of victory. Jesus’ sacrifice was
complete and perfect. Our debt was fully paid by the blood of the
Lamb.

7. Text: Luke 23:44-46 - PW
Submission: He who is not prepared to die is not prepared to live.
“Father, into your hands I commit My spirit,” describes how Jesus
died: confidently, willingly, and victoriously.
