Student: zehra
Ans . Def:
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of
17 global goals established by the United Nations in
2015. They address a wide range of social, economic, and
environmental challenges, with the aim of achieving a
more sustainable and equitable world by 2030. The goals
cover areas such as poverty, hunger, health, education,
gender equality, clean water, affordable and clean energy,
decent work, climate action, and more. They provide a
framework for countries, organizations, and individuals to
work together to tackle some of the world’s most
pressing issues.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are as
follows:

1)No Poverty
2)Zero Hunger
3)Good Health and Well-being
4)Quality Education
5)Gender Equality
6)Clean Water and Sanitation
7)Affordable and Clean Energy
8)Decent Work and Economic Growth
9)Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
10) Reduced Inequality
11) Sustainable Cities and Communities
12) Responsible Consumption and Production
13) Climate Action
14) Life Below Water
15) Life on Land
16) Peace and Justice Strong Institutions
17) Partnerships to achieve the Goal
Each goal represents a specific aspect of sustainable
development, and they are interconnected to address
various social, economic, and environmental challenges
facing the world today.
Part 2: which 06 sustainable development goals are
present in Karachi
Ans.
According to my observation following 06 sustainable
development goals are present in Karachi . Poverty,
hunger, health and wellness problem, lack of quality
education, clean water and sanitation, and affordable and
clean energy.
01) No poverty: The “No Poverty” goal is one of the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established
by the United Nations. It aims to end poverty in all its
forms and dimensions by ensuring that all people
have access to resources, services, and opportunities
necessary for a decent standard of living. This goal
focuses on eradicating extreme poverty, reducing
inequalities, and promoting social protection systems
to support those in need.
In Karachi there is extreme poverty, beggars everywhere
and crime rate us so high because of poverty. It doesn’t
seems possible that till 2030 this problem could be
solved .

2: zero hunger goal: The “Zero Hunger” goal is 2nd goal of

the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
established by the United Nations. It aims to end hunger,
achieve food security and improved nutrition, and
promote sustainable agriculture by 2030. This goal
focuses on ensuring that all people have access to safe,
nutritious, and sufficient food year-round. It also
addresses issues such as malnutrition, agricultural
productivity, and supporting smallholder farmers in
developing countries.
In Karachi hunger is on its peak , it’s difficult for the
people to eat three times a day , many children dies
every year because of hunger, the government didn’t do
any specific plans to solve this issue , and till 2030 it’s
seem impossible that there will be zero hunger in
Karachi,

3:good health and wellbeing goal.

The “Good Health and Wellbeing” goal of the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) is Goal 3. It aims to ensure
healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
This goal includes targets to reduce maternal and child
mortality, combat various diseases, ensure access to
healthcare services, and promote mental health. It
focuses on achieving universal health coverage and
improving healthcare infrastructure to enhance the
overall health and well-being of individuals around the
world.
Most of the population in Karachi is not healthy, they
have many health issue the climate is full of dust and
germs , the drinking water is contaminated every 2nd
person is I’ll, hepatitis and diabetes is on its peak, still the
government is unable to provide the people good health
and wellbeing again they are fail to take control over it till
2030.
4: Quality Education Goal.
The goal of “Quality Education” is 4rth goal of the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined by the
United Nations. It aims to ensure inclusive and equitable
education for all, focusing on improving learning
outcomes and providing lifelong learning opportunities.
The goal emphasizes access to quality education, skill
development, gender equality in education, and fostering
a conducive learning environment. Education in Karachi is
very expensive, due to poverty and bad government
education is out of reach of the lower class in Karachi,
they remain uneducated and it’s also impossible that till
2030 this issue could be solved.

5: clean water and sanitation:

The clean water and sanitation goal is one of the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the
United Nations. Its aim is to ensure availability and
sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
This involves improving access to safe drinking water,
basic sanitation, and proper hygiene practices, especially
in developing countries. The goal also focuses on water
quality, water-use efficiency, and protecting and restoring
water-related ecosystems.
Drinking water in Karachi is contaminated, full of germs ,
every 2nd or 3rd individual is a vector of hepatitis and
other germs because of contaminated water , the
government didn’t done any memorable policy regarding
clean water , the lower class stuffers a lot.
6: affordable and clean energy:
The Affordable and Clean Energy goal, also known as SDG
7, aims to ensure access to reliable, sustainable, and
modern energy for all. It’s part of the United Nations’
Sustainable Development Goals, and it emphasizes the
importance of transitioning to clean and renewable
energy sources while ensuring affordability and
accessibility. This goal recognizes the significance of
energy in achieving various aspects of sustainable
development, from poverty reduction to environmental
protection.
Pakistan uses hydrothermal powerplants to generate
energy, but with bad governess electricity is so expensive
that people can’t afford it, Karachi has shortage of
electricity as well . In 24 hours almost 12 to 14 hours of
load shedding is common, and also the unit charges are
high which is out of the reach of middle and Lower class.
