THE AIR POLLUTION IN CHINA

China suffers from the worst air pollution in the world.

China is famous for being a major polluter Nation. Its carbon-intensive

industries cause enormous environmental damages. Its economic
growth in the past three decades has been the fastest among major
nations, which is the main factor in why China has extensive air
pollution. Of the twenty cities with the worst air pollution in the world, 16
are located in China, including Beijing.

The causes of China’s air pollution are mostly two:

1. an enormous economic growth, using outdated and inefficient
technologies and polluting sources of energy like coal. The coal
factories are mainly located on the surroundings of Beijing;
2. big growth in the number of vehicles in larger cities, emissions
from motorized vehicles contribute to nearly 70% of the city's air
pollution.

There are a variety of consequences of air pollution:

● impact on public health. A study made in 2019 found that air
pollution caused 1.42 million deaths in China.
● high levels of emissions causes every year hundreds of flight
cancellations and frequent road closures due to low visibility.
● water scarcity and soil contamination.
