LESSON 4: THE NANOWORLD

ACTIVITY 1: IDENTIFICATION
Identify what is being referred to in each item. Use the Space provided
for your answer.

1. Nanometer
2. Electron microscope
3. Dip pen lithography
4. Top down fabrication
5. Nanotechnology can be applied in making source of
renewable energy accessible to many.
6. Nanoscience & Nanotechnology
ACTIVITY 2: ESSAY

1. In your own words, explain what are nanomaterials and how are
they made.
From the size of cars, building, or an airplane they are a bigger things
that make sense, and more better, but sometimes bigger isn’t always better, so
we find things that are small that made up of small material, and here comes
the nanomaterials.
Nanomaterials are chemical substances or materials that are
manufactured and used at a very small scale. Even this they are small they have
big punch, this nanomaterials We’re used everywhere from Healthcare industry
to electronics. Nanomaterials are very tiny, it’s about 100,000 times smaller
than the diameter of a human hair, because they are small, sometimes they are
hard to see in any type of Microscope. They may be in the form of particles,
tubes, rods or fibres. Also, nanomaterials are often attractive to water and oil
molecules, makes them more absorbent than large Materials. Nanomaterials, It
is made and formed through either breaking down of larger particles or by
controlled assembly processes. Also, can occur naturally, be created as the by-
products of combustion reactions, or be produced purposefully through
engineering to perform a specialized function.

2. What are the factors that need to be considered before manufacturing

materials through nanotechnology?

• Health factor
• The materials needed
• Environment risk
• The use of that material invented.
• safety factors
Nanotechnology has environment effect, that found in cosmetics, paints,
clothing and other products are questioned as they go through sewerage
treatment plants untreated due to their undetectable size, through this it can
affect our water source, plant will be contaminated as well as water. Also, it's
high in reactivity and toxicity, pervasive distribution on the environment.
In health, yes it improved medicine, however need to considered it's ability
to cross cell membrane and translocate in the body, and there's no FDA
approved needed for cosmetics or supplement, before to manufactured.
In safety factors, needs to consider if this 100% safe to the consumption of
human, what the risk of using this products, needs to validate it's safety
procedure and so on, before to manufactured.

3. What are the contribution of Nanotechnology for the improvement and

sustainability of our environment?
From saving raw materials, energy and water, to decreasing greenhouse
gases and dangerous waste, these are the nanotechnology contribution to
sustain our environment. Nanotechnology increases the strengths of many
materials and devices, as well as enhances efficiencies of monitoring devices,
remediation of environmental pollution, and renewable energy production.
Through this it support it environmental and climate protection.
Moreover, nanotechnology Help us in variety Ways, one is, it increase our
water supply, reducing the contaminates from our waters. Also through
nanotechnology we assist our environment in different level than before, It help
us to do things green, we design our products in small materials, and enable
apply recycling and Less waste at the end. Because of this we can have a
sustainable and better environment through the contribution of
Nanotechnology.
