5m Starter& Place children in pairs. Give each pair of children 5 counters. Ask: How
warming up
many ways can you make 5? (Six ways: 0 + 5, 1 + 4, 2 + 3, 3 + 2, 4 + 1, 5 + 0)
Ask children to write all the equations on their marker boards. Give all the
pairs of children 2 more counters. Ask: How many ways can you make 7?
(Eight ways: 0 + 7, 1 + 6, 2 + 5, 3 + 4, 4 + 3, 5 + 2, 6 + 1, 7 + 0)
10m Teaching Give each child two different color counters and point out the different
ways to make 5, 6, and 7.
Explain to children that we can make each number in different ways.
10 Independent Let children complete the Practice independently. Walk around the room
Work and check for understanding.
Check that children understand the following vocabulary:
• 5 facts
Worksheets • 6 facts
• 7 facts

Level 2 Complete their work with minimum supervision in pairs. Reteaching
will be done where necessary.
