Dear Parent

The interhouse competitions for Grades 5 to 7 will be held on 24th November 2022 during school
hours.

Please take note of the details of the competitions as listed below:

November – Science Skills (Group Competitions)

Middle School Grades 5 to 7

Instructions:
➢ This month there will be several competitions based on science skills that will help foster a
scientific attitude in learners/students.
➢ All competitions for this month are group competitions.

Grade 5 - Science Quiz

➢ The Subject area here is Science.

➢ Each round would consist of 12 questions from various subject areas and would range from easy
to difficult; there would be three rounds. At the end of each round, the house that has scored the
least would be out of the competition.

If there is a tie, then there would be a tiebreaker question between the two teams, and the team
that answers first wins. Again, if there is a tie then there would be a rapid-fire of 3 questions between
the two teams. The winning team stays, and the losing team would be out of the competition.

Marking Criteria:

For the quiz competition, the learners/students will be marked on the number of correct answers, 1
point for every correct answer.

After 1 minute or if the team gives an incorrect answer, the team gets 0 points, and the word is
either passed to the next team or kept open. The team that guesses it right gets 2 points.

Note: If there are many participants then elimination rounds will be conducted as well.

For details on the elimination rounds, refer to the instructions given below:

For the elimination rounds (if you are required to conduct them) the learners/students participating
would be required to fill up a questionnaire comprising of a set of 20 questions of varying difficulty
levels. This test would be an objective test involving one word or a maximum of one sentence
answer. The learners/students would be given only 20 minutes to complete this written test of 20
marks. Marks could be deducted for incomplete answers, glaring spelling mistakes, and wrong
answers.
Four or two of the highest scorers from each house will be selected to compete in the finals. The
elimination rounds could be conducted similarly till the desired number of learners/students is
reached and each elimination round will be in the form of an objective written test only. If there is a
tie, then there could be a rapid fire round consisting of 3 questions and the winner will be selected.

➢ Similar protocols should be followed for all competitions.
