I. OBJECTIVES

The learner demonstrates understanding of scientific ways acquiring

A. Content Standard
knowledge and solving problems
B. Performance The learner conducts simple investigations through the inquiry approach
Standards using local available materials
Describe the components of scientific investigation S7MT-Ig-h-5
C. Learning At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
Competencies/ a. determine scientific method
Objectives b. identify the steps of a scientific method
(Write the LC code) c. appreciate that scientific method can also be used in finding answers and
solutions to your own problems

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous ELICIT (5mins)
lesson or presenting 1. The teacher will give a science fact about the age of the Earth.
the new lesson 2. Tell the students that the planet Earth is 4.5 billion years old now. Planet
Earth does not have a birth certificate, scientist spent 100 of years to
determine the age of Earth. Scientist based the age of the Earth to the
rocks in the Earth ever changing crust as well as the rocks in the Earths’
neighbors such as the moon and visiting meteorites
B. Establishing a ENGAGE (5mins.)
purpose for the 1. Ask the students the following questions:
lesson a. How did life of Earth exist million years ago?
b. How do plants grow?
c. Why is the sky blue?
C. Presenting 2. Ask them what is the origin of those things and what are they made of.
examples/instances 3. Tell the students that in science there is a way of answering those
of the new lesson questions.
4. Ask them “Want to know what it is?” and finally flash the word
“scientific method” on the screen.
D. Discussing new EXPLORE (15mins)
concepts and Pre-test
practicing new skills Write the letter of the correct answer for each question.
#1
1. Which of the following questions is best considered as scientific?
a. Who invented electricity?
b. How long did dinosaurs live on Earth?
c. How many koalas are there in Australia?
d. Does the amount of salt in water affect the temperature at which
it boils?
2. What is the process of obtaining information using your senses?
a. Inquiry
b. Conclusion
c. Observation
d. Scientific method
3. What is the series of steps designed to help you solve problems and
answer questions?
E. Discussing new
a. Inquiry
concepts and
practicing new skills b. Conclusion
#2 c. Observation
d. Scientific method
4. In which step of the scientific method do we use graphs?
a. Analyze data
b. Asking questions
c. Making a hypothesis
d. Communicate results
5. When a scientist shares his findings with other scientists, he is
_________.
a. Experimenting
b. Analyzing data
c. Making a hypothesis
d. Communicating the results
F. Developing mastery EXPLAIN (10mins)
(leads to Formative 1. Ask the students how do they solve their problems or answer a question?
Assessment 3) Tell them “in my case, what is do is I analyze the problem at hand and
think for a possible solution and try the solution to see if it is effective or
not.
2. The teacher will discuss what is scientific method and the steps of the
scientific method
a. Make observations
b. Come up with a question
c. Develop a hypothesis
d. Conduct an experiment
e. Record and analyze the results
f. Draw conclusion
3. Tell the students that science is way of thinking and a way of gathering
knowledge about the world that is both accurate and reliable. It is a quest
to understand and improve our knowledge of the world around us and
how the things in it works or why they work the way they do.

G. Finding practical ELABORATE (10mins)

applications of 1. Make observations: Ask the students “How are you going to observe?”
concepts and skills Tell them that they need to use their five senses: sight, smell, taste,
in daily living
hearing, touch.
2. Come up with a question: Tell them, based on their observations, they
may now formulate a question. Either a question or a problem that needs
to be solve. You know, the basic W, H questions: What, When, Why,
Where and How.
3. Develop a hypothesis: Tell the students that hypothesis is an educated
guess. It is a possible answer to the question you have formulated. Keep
in mind that it does not matter whether yo0ur hypothesis is right or
wrong.
4. Conduct an experiment: Tell them that in this step they will test their
H. Making
hypothesis through experimentation. You will try your hypothesis to see
generalizations and
abstractions about if it answers your question and if not, you will think of another
the lesson hypothesis
5. Record and analyze results: Tell the students to make sure to be detail in
documenting your results. They may use tables and graphs to convey
their results. This will also make their analysis easier.
6. Draw conclusion. Tell them that this is their opportunity to take about
their hypothesis, experiments, results and conclusion which is the final
answer to their problem or experiment. Tell them that conclusion is
connected to hypothesis and on this part, they may now conclude if their
hypothesis is accepted or rejected based on the results of their
experiment.
I. Evaluating learning EVALUATE (10mins.)
Match the corresponding description for each step given.
EXTEND (5mins)
In preparation to the next lesson, prepare the following
 2 apples
J. Additional activities  Water
for application or  Milk
remediation  Juice
 Soda
 contianers

V. REMARKS
VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the evaluation
B. No. of learners who require additional activities for
remediation
C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of learners who have
caught up with the lesson
D. No. of learners who continue to require remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies worked well? Why did
these work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter which my principal or
supervisor can help me solve?
