Sand: The gold for development

The sand being a natural resource has been excessively extracted these days for fulfilling the rapid
urbanisation and town planning, thus jeopardizing the environment. Sand is the basic raw material
used for developing a number of resources for mankind and is in huge demand. The desert sand is
unsuitable for use because of its smooth texture. Therefore, sand is extracted from river beds and
swampy areas to fulfill the demand. This has led to river pollution, making it unsuitable for the river
ecosystem to survive in. This enormous demand for sand has led to black marketing too. However,
not only the other organisms suffer, but also mankind is affected. Over-exploitation of sand takes a
toll on the infrastructure of a region, especially the bridge connectivity and water management
system of an area is affected.
