I. OBJECTIVE

Solve problems using the law of sine.

II. CONTENT: Law of Sine
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
Materials: TV, Laptop, manila papers, markers, calculator, ruler, protractors

Values Integration: Optimism. (Every Problem has a solution.)

IV. PROCEDURES:
1. Preparatory Activity
1.1 The teacher will give and explain the classroom rules before the class started.

2Before you take your seats

please arrange
3your chairs properly and pick up
the pieces
4of papers and plastics on the
floor.
5Before you take your seats
please arrange
6your chairs properly and pick up
the pieces
7of papers and plastics on the
floor.
8Before you take your seats
please arrange
9your chairs properly and pick up
the pieces
10of papers and plastics on the
floor. (Before you will take your seats please arrange your chairs properly and please pick
up the pieces of papers and plastics on the floor.)
Now as a reminder as in our classroom rules:
a. No eating inside the classroom.
b. No using of cellphones during my class.
c. When someone is talking we should listen and if you have question or clarifications
just raise your hand to be recognize.
d. Throw your garbage properly.
e. If you want to go to the comfort room just inform me and be sure you will not disturb
the class.

A. Drill: (3-5 minutes)

Simplify the following:

1. √2 + √2 = 2. 2 - √4 =
3. √8 - √2 = 4. 2√3 + √3 =

B. Review:
State the Law of Sine. (Using Video Clip)
C. Preparation
● Ask the learners: Which of the following transportation is best in traveling from
Ormoc City going to Metro Manila? Which transportation do you think covers the
shortest distance? The longest? (Answer may vary.)

ORMOC CITY METRO MANILA

● Present the objective of the lesson and the activity.

D. Developmental Activity. (10 – 15 mins.)

Directions:
● Divide the class into six (6) groups.
● Each group will present their solution and answers based on their output of the
activity.
● Let the students collaborate with each other. (If queries arise.)

(Group 1 & 2) (Note: These sets of students are above average, so they are the one
who will do the first activity which is following the given instruction, illustrates the
figure, put the measurements of given parts and solve using the law of sine).

Instruction:
1. Your group will be given an envelope which contains the map of Leyte and a list of
three cities for you to locate on the map. Two groups on each set of cities. This is to
compare your answers.
Group Point A Point B Point C

1&2 Ormoc City Tacloban City Maasin City

2. Locate the three cities.

3. Connect the dots using your ruler. (in centimeters).
4. Measure also each side of the triangle, using ruler. (in centimeter).
5. Measure the three angles using protractor.
6. Using the Law of Sine double check the measures of the distances and the
measures of the angles of the triangle.
7. Compare your answer with your co-group.

(Group 3 & 4) (Note: The figure below is already labeled, since these group of
students are just an average students.)
Instruction: Read the problem below and solve using the law of sine.

Two Navy helicopters A and B are flying over the Bay of Bengal at same

altitude from the sea level to search a missing boat. Pilots of both the helicopters sight

the boat at the same time while they are apart 10 km from each other. If the distance

of the boat from A is 6 km and if the line segment AB subtends  600 at the boat and

∠B=31.30, find the distance of the boat from B.

31.3

(Group 5 & 6) (Note: The figure below has no label, so the group will be the one who
will put the measurements on the figure. These sets of students are having difficulty in
illustrating but good in comprehension.)

Instruction: Read the problem and solve using the law of sine.

A straight tunnel is to be made through a mountain. A surveyor observes the

two extremities A and B of the tunnel to be built from a point P in front of the

mountain. If AP = 3km, BP = 5 km and ∠ PAB = 1200 and ∠APB = 290, then find the

length of the tunnel to be built.

E. Enrichment Activity (10 – 15 mins. )

Work in pairs. Draw your own triangles given the indicated measures and solve the
other parts using the Law of Sines.

1. A = 730 , a = 18 , b = 11

B = ____ C = ____ c = ____

F. Generalization
The teacher discusses the application of Sine Law as an approach to solve problems
involving oblique triangles.

The Law of sine can be applied if the following parts of the oblique triangles.
1. Two angles and one side (SAA)
2. Two angles and one included side (ASA)
3. Two sides and an angle opposite to one of these sides (SSA)

Suggested HOTS questions:

1. Is it possible to apply law of sine in solving problems involving

quadrilaterals? Justify your answer.
G. Application
Activity A: I Challenge You!

In ABC.
Hi there! I am a MATH WIZARD, I
Given: two angles and one came here to challenge you.
side. Solve for c using the law of sine. If
you do this correctly, I will have
∠A = 420 you as my apprentice. Good luck!
∠C = 700
c=6

V. EVALUATION.
Solve using the Law of Sine.

1. c=? 2. B = ?
VI. AGREEMENT
State the law of cosine.

REMARKS/ REFLECTIONS:
The Law of Sines

The Law of Sines (or Sine Rule) is very useful for solving triangles:

Sine A = Sine B = Sine C

a b c

where,
A, B, and C are angles and a, b, and
c are sides.
(Side a faces angle A, side b faces
angle B and side c faces angle C).

And it says that:

When we divide side a by the sine of angle A it is equal to side b divided by
the sine of angle B, and also equal to side c divided by the sine of angle C
