Human Rights:
Human rights are a set of moral principles/norms for particular standards of human behaviour which
are protected in municipal and international law. Within a population, human rights apply to all
people being non-discriminative and inclusive. They connect with various other teachings including
human dignity and all intertwine with each other to contain several meanings. They are further
fundamental, universal, indivisible and inherent which allows for no person to have power or control
of who can possess them or if they apply to certain groups of the population which are determined
by race, colour, ethnicity, gender, cultural nationality and socioeconomic status. Demonstrating how
the human rights are necessary for a civilisation.

Role of United Nations:

The role of the United Nations relating to human rights is to deal with violations of human rights
which are often in conflict areas. The United Nations are able to hold UN human rights conventions
on relevant issues. This can include rights regarding Racial Discrimination, Women rights, Children
rights and People with Disability rights. These Conventions are used to educate the public on their
rights and make Governments create more ideal living standards for citizens. Commonly, the
conventions are brought upon by recent issues in the world or in select nations who are
experiencing distress.

The Human Rights Council, which was established on 15 March 2006, replacing the UN Commission
on Human Rights as the key body responsible for human rights. The Council compromises of 47
states which are spread across the world based on geographical location. This council is able to
discuss world issues and send Humanitarian Aid to affected countries relating to medical problems,
food shortages and/or water supply issues. Further, they are able to help refugees by providing
emergency relief and accepting them in council member’s countries.
