2.6 Resetting LaserWash

2.6.1 Perform a Safety Startup Check
After each wash, LaserWash performs a safety startup check. This ensures the wash bay is clear and ready for service. If
startup check fails, machine re-tests until functional. The LaserWash makes up to a max of 5 attempts.
Technicians may manually force a safety startup:
1. Cycle power to LaserWash Wash Controller by issuing a reset command from the remote control or diagnostics web
page [TEST] [9][0] [ENTER].

2.6.2 Drive LaserWash Home and Reset

1. Toggle the switch from Maintenance Mode back to Run Mode [INSTANT] [2] [0].
2. If there are no motion errors, the machine will automatically drive back to home position.
If machine WILL NOT automatically drive back to home position, see below.

NOTE: Ensure Bridge movements are free of obstructions.

If user presses ALT before ‘Up’, ‘Left’, ‘Right’ or ‘Back’ when using joystick keys on remote
NOTE: control, speed movement reduces to creep speed; this ignores errors, limits and collision
errors.

CAUTION! – WHEN A MACHINE MOVE IS MADE WITH THE REMOTE CONTROL AT LOW
SPEED WITH THE ALT KEY, THE BRIDGE AND TROLLEY DO NOT STOP ON EXTENT
SWITCHES. KEEP HANDS AND BODY PARTS CLEAR WHEN OPERATING IN THIS MODE TO
PREVENT CRUSHING BETWEEN THE MOVING MACHINE AND THE END STOPS.

WARNING! – WHEN OPERATING THE MACHINE IN MANUAL MODE WITH THE REMOTE
CONTROL, THE USER WITH THE REMOTE CONTROL IS IN CONTROL OF ALL MACHINE
FUNCTIONS. BE SURE THAT PEOPLE ARE CLEAR OF MOVING PARTS OF THE LASERWASH
PRIOR TO INITIATING A MANUAL MACHINE MOTION COMMAND.

KEEP TROLLEY/ ARCH TO OUTER LIMITS TO MIMIC A VEHICLE IN THE WASH BAY WHEN MOVING
!!IMPORTANT!! THE MACHINE AROUND MANUALLY. CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WHEN ROTATING THE ARCH AS TO
NOT DRIVE OR ROTATE THE ARCH INTO PEOPLE OR OBJECTS WITHIN THE BAY.

REMOTE CONTROL MOTION COMMANDS
To move bridge home, issue [Motion] [1] [ENTER].
REMOTE CONTROL JOYSTICK KEYS
To move bridge forward, press ‘Up’.
To move bridge backward press ‘Down’.
To move bridge to right, press ‘Right’.
To move bridge to left, press ‘Left’.

2.7 Bridge Position Troubleshooting

The machine needs to find the limits of motion. This should be done when the machine is setup, and when the motion
limit switches or flags are moved.

Position errors have two main causes:

1. Proximity switch faults or failures

2. Motor speed does not follow command speed.

Troubleshooting prox switch faults requires that the switches are activated at the proper point, and that the correct
dimensions are entered into the setup page. This is the first point to check.

Less likely, but possible, is a motor or drive fault that causes the motor to appear to be running at the correct speed but
is actually unable to move the motion axis at the requested speed.

For example, if the trolley binds for some distance after reaching the center and the over current is set to high, the node
will think the trolley will have travelled farther than the trolley has actually traveled. In this case the arch may rotate
before reaching the left side of the vehicle and create an arch impact when the bridge starts to move.

ORIGINAL INSTRUCTIONS

The following IO monitors are used to troubleshoot extent and marker problems:

Switch Input Command

Bridge Extent Flag X205 [IOMON] [2] [5] [ENTER]
Bridge Marker X207 [IOMON] [2] [7] [ENTER]
Trolley Extent X206 [IOMON] [2] [6] [ENTER]
Trolley Marker X208 [IOMON] [2] [8] [ENTER]

In addition, the position of the front gantry is annunciated using [STATUS] [5] [ENTER]. If the gantry is at an extent, this
command will let you know the position where the node thinks the bridge or trolley is located.

2.8 Proximity Switches

ISSUE POTENTIAL SOLUTION
Proximity switch is adjusted properly, but not registering the Measure between the brown (12+) and blue (12C).
input: Should measure 12VDC.
Trace wires back until user finds 12 VDC.
Check to see if the contact in the proximity switch is
functioning; place voltmeter leads on the blue wire,
12VDC common and the black wire, signal. With nothing
in front of the sensor, user should measure 12 VDC.
When a piece of metal is placed in front of the sensor
the voltage should drop to 0 VDC.

The brown wire should be terminated to 12 VDC +, the blue wire terminated to 12 VDC common, and
NOTE:
the black wire to signal.

When troubleshooting the proximity switch, first check for misalignment and damage to the switch.
Proximity switches have a specific range from the target at which they will operate. The proximity
switches should all be set within 1/4" (0.64cm) to 1/8" (0.32) from the flags and targets they read. The
NOTE : proximity switch should be replaced if there are scratches or cracks on the face of the sensor. Check the
cable for wear, abrasions, and corrosion on the pins at the molded end of the cable. It is recommended
that dielectric grease be applied to the molded end of the cable to help protect against moisture and
chemicals.

ISSUES
Pulsing Wash in Use three times takes unit out of service.
Some systems may need a 1k ohm, 1/2 watt resistor installed across the Wash in Use terminals in entry station. This aids
the unit with the 24VAC leakage current.
The Wash Select II unit needs the wash in use voltage below 0.7 volts AC for the unit to reliably recognize out of service
signals. This requires installing 1/2 watt resistors across the wash in use terminals in the unit until voltage with the
output off is less then 0.7 volts. Start with 1k ohm and then lower to 500 ohm if needed.
