period (time window during which you can enroll). If you are not enrolled at a university, you cannot
study and therefore cannot receive a certificate of enrollment.
Identity card or passport (incl. valid visa if applicable) Registrar / Student Office
One biometric passport photo (for the residence permit) Registrar / Student Office
All documents must be submitted within 14 days of arrival, and latest by October 13, 2023.
These include:
- School leaving certificates, including diploma and overview of subjects and grades. This
certificate allows you to start university studies in your home country.
- Certificates on successfully passing university entrance exams.
- Transcripts of Records of subjects and grades of previously completed university studies (if the
course of study has not been completed).
- University certificates (Diploma and final overview of subjects and grades, diploma
supplement).
- Any further additional certificates issued by your school or university.
For your university entrance qualification (in most cases, your school leaving certificate), we require
officially certified copies or the original of the educational certificates. If you bring the original
certificates, we will certify the copies ourselves. For certificates that are not in English or German, we
also require certified translations. If your country/institution issues your certificates (additionally) in
German or English, we do not need a certified translation of the original certificates.
Note: If you are unsure which documents you need to submit in certified forms, please reach out to the
Admissions Office.
If you have any questions on which of the documents apply to you, please reach out to our Admissions
Officer, Omar Hernandez.
• School leaving Certificate: Submit the certificate in its entirety, including the overview of
subjects and grades.
• If applicable, proof of having passed a university entrance exam: If you have already passed
a university entrance exam in your country of origin, please bring the relevant certificate and
results.
• If you have been enrolled at a university, you will need to submit the transcripts of the
completed semesters, and a certificate of exmatriculation. The Transcript of Records include a
complete overview of subjects and grades issued by your university. If you have already
completed your higher education studies, we also need your diploma certificate.
Certificates and Transcripts of Records must be submitted in officially certified copies for the purposes
of admission and enrollment. These must meet the following standards:
• Copies are only accepted as certified when they carry the original official stamp or embossed
seal and original signature of the certifying person.
• Officially certified copies consisting of multiple pages must clearly show that every page has
been officially certified in the same process. This can be ensured in the following ways:
Copies, or printed versions of uploaded copies of certified documents are not considered certified and
cannot be accepted.
In Germany, any public institution ("öffentliche Stelle") which has an official stamp ("Dienstsiegel") is
authorized to certify documents. This includes:
• persons or institutions authorized to make translations under oath or admissible in court (sworn
translations),
• a department of the issuing school or university authorized to issue such translations.
Translations of this kind of task are done and certified by a sworn translator resident in Germany or in
the country of the translation and registered at the district court.
We do not accept non-certified translations from standard translation agencies.
If you do not wish to hand in the original translations, we would also accept certified copies of
translations. Please bear in mind that translators may put their original stamp on certified copies of
translations made by themselves. However, they may not certify documents in the original language
(see point above).

you, please refer to the New Student Orientation Guide.
It is mandatory to have health insurance in Germany. International students must present proof that
they have health insurance when they enroll. There are two types of health insurance: statutory health
insurance (public) and private health insurance plans. We recommend that eligible students enrolled in
the Bachelor of Music take public health insurance. Students in Preparatory courses and students over
the age of 30 are required to get private health insurance plans.
For enrollment, we would need proof of health insurance:
• Students from EEA countries or countries that have signed a social security agreement with
Germany (e.g. EU citizens, Switzerland, Serbia, Croatia, Turkey): The statutory health
insurance of many international students of these countries is also valid for necessary medical
treatment (emergency care) during their stay in Germany. In this case, you are normally eligible
to use the plan you already have in your home country if you have the European Health
Insurance Card (EHIC) or insurance certificate (e.g. E-111, A/T 11, DE 101 SRB, DE 123
SRB). If this is your case, we would need a document proving that you are not required to
take out Germany public health insurance (“Befreiung Krankenversicherungspflicht”). This
document is issued by the statutory health insurance providers in Germany. Please reach out to
us in advance as the Office of Admissions can provide you with a contact to receive this
document before travelling to Berlin.
• Non-EU citizens or countries without a social security agreement with Germany: We recommend
incoming Bachelor of Music students to sign up for statutory health insurance through the TK
upon arrival. During orientation, a separate event will be scheduled for this purpose. If you would
like to take up this offer, please make sure that you sign up for a short-term incoming health
insurance, covering the first four weeks of your stay in Germany until you register with a statutory
health insurance (TK).
