EXPLICIT DIRECT INSTRUCTION LESSON PLAN

Learning Area: SCIENCE Grade level: 9

Learning Objectives
• Given the ball and feather, students will write their observations on three
different activities and describe the horizontal and vertical motions of a
projectile.

Preview or Review Have you ever had an activity before where you use ball? Students will think of
example activities where they use ball.

Explain, Model, Explain

Demonstrate
 The vertical motion is a motion that happens when we throw an object
Clarification Questions: totally up, this means that the initial velocity or the force is only applied
1) What is vertical?
in the vertical axis.
2) What does horizontal mean?
3) What are the other activities
that we can witness projectile  Horizontal motion is defined as a projectile motion in a horizontal plane
motion? depending upon the force acting on it.

 Projectile motion is the motion of an object thrown (projected) into the

air when, after the initial force that launches the object. The path is
called its trajectory.

Socratic Questions Model

1) How does the height affect the
vertical motion of an object?
 I will hold the ball and the feather, at drop them at the same time.
2) How does the elevation affect the  I will roll the ball while the folder is elevated.
distance of an object being rolled?  I will throw the ball.
3) How does the distance affect the
projectile motion of an object?

Demonstrate
 I will hold the ball and the feather, then drop these two objects at the
same time while doing Indian sit.
 I will roll the ball while the folder is elevated using one fist.
 I will throw the ball while standing 1 meter away from the table.

Guided Practice Perform the activities of vertical, horizontal and projectile motion.
Socratic Questions
1) What can you say about • Comprehension:
the time differences of the After performing the vertical motion activity, which trial has the shortest
ball and feather? time difference? Which trial has the longest time difference?
2) How does the elevation
affect the distance After performing the horizontal motion activity, which ball has the shortest
traveled by a ball? distance? Which ball has the longest distance?
3) How does the distance
influence the projectile After performing the projectile motion activity, how does the distance
motion? affect the trajectory?
• Synthesis: After doing the activity, what can you conclude about the following:
a. Vertical Motion
b. Horizontal Motion
c. Projectile Motion

Closure Closure:

Can 80% of the learners do the objective independently?

Ask yourself this question is: Am I getting a higher level of comprehension today
than I got yesterday?
Independent Practice Independent work while pulling out 20% who cannot do independent work
successfully.

• pen and paper
