CEIA ESIA Preparation For KFW Funded 4 Hydroelectric Projects in Chamba District H.P For HPSEBL
Environmental Projects
Project Description
Introduction:
HPSEBL is developing several green-field Hydropower Projects within the framework of
the Programme “Hydropower in the Himalaya – Phase I” with the support of KfW Develop-
ment Bank. In which, Saikothi I, Saikothi II, Devi Kothi and Hail envisages utilization of
run-off-of-the river scheme for the generation of 15 MW, 18 MW, 16 MW and 18 MW of
power respectively.
Project benefits:
The power generation, harnessing only gravitational potential of water to make it yield en-
ergy in a continuum, decreased pollution in the area (hydro replacing diesel generation,
electricity replacing polluting energy sources) and increased water surface creates habitat
for aquatic life in or near the reservoir.
Also, it will improve in living standard of local people, socio-economic status, generate em-
ployment opportunities, and increases potential for fish and fisheries (catch and income).
Project related infrastructure (roads, health facilities, education facilities) will help the local
people in terms of net improvement in community health and education.
Scope of work:
Development of Cumulative EIA, ESIA and ESMP report as per world bank, KfW’s and
IFC Feb, 2015 guideline.
