Ball
o Ball Weight- Between 9 and 10 ounces.

o The area from which the server may serve the volleyball
Ceiling height
o Minimum ceiling height should be 23 feet
Volleyball Terminologies
o ACE - A Serve That Results Directly in A Point.
o Antenna - Red-and-white Striped Pole attached to the net
o Assist - Passing or Setting the ball to a teammate
o Attack - The offensive action of hitting the ball
o Attack Error - Unsuccessful Attack
o Block - Intercept the ball near the net
o Ball Handling Error - Any time the official calls a double hit, a thrown ball
or a lift.
o Blocking Error - Violation that consists of touching the net
o Blocking Solo – Successful attempt by any one front row player to intercept
the ball
o Campfire - Ball that falls to the floor in an area that’s surrounded by two
o Centerline - Boundary that runs directly under the net
o Court dimensions - 6 inches wide (18m x 9m)
o Cross-court attack - An attack that is directed diagonally from the point of
attack.
o Dig – Passing a spiked or rapidly hit the ball
o Dink - Legal push of the ball around or over blockers.
o Double hit - Successive hits or contacts by the same player. (Illegal)
o Down ball – A ball that is hit overhand and driven over the net
o Dump – Usually performed by the setter
o Extension roll – A move to the floor which enables a player to dig the ball
o Floater – Serve which does not spin or rotate and therefor moves in a erratic
path.
o Free ball – Returning the ball to the opponent without the intent to get kill.
o Held ball – A ball that comes to rest during contact resulting in a foul
o Hitter – A player who attacks the ball.

Scorekeeper
o Scorekeeper’s main job is to make sure the score is correct at all times.
Assistant Scorer
o Main function is to record libero replacements on to a libero tracking sheet.
Line Judges
o Watch the end line and sideline of their respective concerns.
