Safety Practice Scenarios

Unsafe situations:
• You just got out of school. A man in a car says to you, “Your mom told me to
pick you up. Hop in the car.” What should you do?

• You are playing in your front yard when a person drives up and says, “Hi there,
are you ready to go? Your dad sent me to pick you up and take you to his office.
Your mom said it was OK.” What would you do?

• You win a game at the carnival and get to choose a prize. No one else is around so
the carnival man tells you to come around to the back of the truck to look at the
bigger and better prizes. What would you do?

• You are in the swimming pool at your swimming lessons. Someone in the pool
comes over to you and touches your private parts. What would you do?

• You are playing in your yard by yourself when someone in a car drives up and
says, “Hi, can you come over the car? I have something for your parents.” What
would you do?

• You are playing in your yard by yourself when a person walks up and says, “I lost
my kitten around here. Will you come with me and help me find it? Please. I just
know if we don’t find it soon something bad might happen to it.” What would you
do?

• You are in your front yard running through the sprinkler. A man walks up and
says, “Why don’t you take off your swimsuit? It would be more fun and a lot
cooler.” What would you do?

• You are playing at the park and see someone standing by some trees. He asks you
to come over and talk to him. What would you do?

• You are playing in your front yard when someone in a car drives up and says, “Hi
there. I think I’m lost and I need some help. Can you please come over here and
tell me where I am?” What would you do?

• An uncle who you like always wants to wrestle. When you wrestle with him he
touches your private parts. What would you do?

• You are playing in your front yard when someone walks up and says, “Hi, I’m
going to go play in the park. Would you like to come with me? There’s going to
be other kids there that you know.” What would you do?
• A man who’s visiting your parents keeps coming into the bathroom and looking at
you while you are taking a bath. Since the lock on the door is broken, you can’t
lock him out. What would you do?

• You are playing at the park when someone walks up to you and says, “My puppy
is lost. See, here’s his picture. Won’t you please come with me and help me find
him before he gets hurt?” What would you do?

• You are outside the store waiting for your mom to finish shopping. A woman
walks up and says, “Hi, I’m your neighbor. I can give you a ride home so you
don’t have to wait.” What would you do?

• You are riding your bike and the chain falls off. A man comes out of his house
and says he can help you but you have to bring it into his garage. What would you
do?

Safe situations:
• A friend of your parents comes to pick you up at school. He is on the list of
people that your parents have agreed can take you out of school. What would you
do?

• You are at the house of one of your parent’s friends. Your parents have stepped
out of the room. There is no one else around and the friend offers you a piece of
candy. What would you do?

• You are at your friend’s house and your friend leaves the room to go to the
bathroom. Your friend’s parent comes into the living room and sits down to watch
T.V. with you from a different chair. What would you do?

• A woman walks over near enough to talk to you but doesn’t get very close to you.
She tells you that she lost her dog. She asks if it would be ok to put the dog’s
picture up on the tree in front of your house. She tells you that her phone number
is with the picture in case anyone sees her dog. What would you do?

• You are playing in your front yard and a man drives up and says, “Hi, I work with
your father. He told me to drop off some information for him. May I leave it in
your mailbox for him?” What would you do?

• You have a new friend. His father stops by the park to give your friend a bottle of
water. He offers one to you. What would you do?

• You are at the park with your friend and a man in a car drives up. Your friend
tells you that the man is his father and asks you to go over to the car to meet him.
What would you do?

• You are at the community swimming pool with your parents. The coach who
teaches children how to swim offers to show you how to swim better. What would
you do?
