28th Day Compression Test

Laboratory Experiment:

I. Objectives:

II. Apparatus:

Compression Testing Machine or Universal Testing

Machine Calipers or ruler
Curing Tank
Loading caps

III. Set – Up:

IV. Theory of Discussion:
V. Procedure:

1. Remove the specimen from the water after 28 days curing time and wipe out excess water
from the surface.
2. Make sure both faces are flat and level
3. Measure the length and the diameter of the cylinder using a caliper or ruler.
4. Turn on the Compression Test Machine
5. Verify the test file name and clean the bearing surface of the testing machine
6. Place the specimen in the Compression Test Machine you can use loading caps to evenly
distribute load
7. Align the specimen centrally on the base plate of the machine.
8. Plug in the hydraulic pump and make sure your goggles are on.
9. Rotate the control handle to full advance so that it touches the top surface of the specimen.
10. Put the control handle on the hole
11. Close the cage door, lock and shut.
12. Rotate the control handle to meter advance and turn the meter valve counterclockwise to take
the loading rate.
13. You can still rotate the meter valve to speed-up or adjust the load rate.
14. Apply the load gradually without shock and continuously at the rate of 750 lb/s till the
specimen fails
15. Turn off the compression test machine
16. Record the maximum load and note any unusual features in the type of failure.
