THIS IS LOVE

Beloved, no other love is greater than the unconditional love that God
has towards us. And “this is how God showed his love among us: He
sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through
him” (1 John 4:9). This is love, because “greater love has no one than
this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13). Do you see
how much God loves us? As the Bible shows, God, out of his love,
did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all and along with
him, he graciously gave us all things (Romans 8:32). Even long ago,
the Prophet Jeremiah spoke about this and said, “the Lord appeared
to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I
have drawn you with unfailing kindness”” (Jeremiah 31:3). Now,
beloved, like what David did, you need to trust and rest in God’s love
(Psalm 52:8).

But to make it even better, this same wonderful love “has been
poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been
given to us” (Romans 5:5). This is so that we, like our heavenly
Father, may love others unconditionally; not because they have
something or because we may profit through them. So, beloved, since
God loved us and we have his love poured into us, we also ought to
love one another (1 John 4:11). And, as the Apostle Paul put it, let our
love be sincere (Romans 12:9). Rejoice!
