Respiratory and Circulatory System

Respiratory system - This organ system is responsible for taking oxygen and expelling carbon
dioxide.

Parts of the Respiratory System:

Nose and Mouth - The entrance of oxygen
Nasal passageway - The air passing this part is warm, damp, and clean.
Pharynx - Throat
Larynx -.Voicebox
Trachea - Empty tube that serves as passageway of air into the lungs.
Lungs - Main organ of the respiratory system.
Bronchi - The two branching tubes that connect the trachea to the lungs.
Bronchioles - The hairlike tubes that connect to the alveoli.
Alveoli - These are the air sacs that allow gas exchange in the lungs.

INHALING:
- Oxygen enters our body.
- Ribs move out and chest space increases or larger.
- Diaphragm muscle contracts.
EXHALING:
- Carbon dioxide exits our body.
- Ribs move in and chest space decreases or smaller.
- Diaphragm muscle relaxes.

Circulatory system - This system is the life support structure that nourishes our cell.
- It functions other body systems to deliver different materials in the body.

Part of the Circulatory System:

Heart - It pumps the blood throughout the body.
- The main organ of the circulatory system.
Blood Vessel - It carries the blood throughout the body.

3 parts of Blood Vessel:

1. Arteries - Carry blood away from the heart.
2. Veins - Carry blood towards the heart.
3. Capillaries - The smallest vessel in the body.

Blood: - It carries the materials throughout the body.

Types of Circulation:
1. Pulmonary circulation - Movement of blood from the heart to the lungs and back to the
heart.
2. Coronary circulation - Movement of blood through the tissues of the heart.
3. Systemic circulation - Movement of blood from the heart to the rest of the body
excluding the lungs.

Four Chambers of the Heart:

- The two atria are the receiving chambers of the heart, accepting blood from the body
and from the lungs
- The two ventricles are the pumping chambers, moving blood to the lungs and into the
body.

Valve - The valves are like one-way doors that keep the blood from moving in only one
direction.
