FIFTEEN RULES FOR CHESS-

ENDGAME:
1. Avoid doubled, isolated and backward pawns!
2. Push passed pawns as rapidly as possible (i.e with help of
king)
3. When ahead 1 or more pawns, trade pieces but not pawns.
4. When behind 1 or more pawns, trade pawns but not pieces.
5. When you have an advantage, leave pawns on both sides of
the board.
6. With pawns on only one side of the board, 99% of the time it’s
a draw (when ahead a pawn)
7. Pure pawn endings are the easiest to win. (But make sure that
you can easily win so that you may go for a pure pawn ending)
8. Easiest endgames to draw are opposite coloured bishops.
9. The king is a strong piece, use it!
10. Don’t put your pawns on the same colour as your
bishop.
11. Bishops are better than knights in all positions (EXCEPT
blocked positions)
12. 2 bishops vs. a knight and bishop constitute a tangible
advantage.
13. Passed pawns should be blockaded by pawns or kings.
14. A rook on the 7th rank is sufficient compensation for a
pawn.
15. Rooks belong behind passed pawns.
