a. Measure of central tendency is a statistical measure that gives information regarding
the central location of the score relative to the entire set of data. It is a test which
computes a single value that can stand alone to represent and give description about
the entire score or distribution. The three commonly used measures of central
tendency is the mean, median and mode.
1. Mean is the sum of all quantities observed divided by the total number of
units.
2. Median is the middle score in the ordered list of values.
3. Mode is the observation that occurs frequently in the data.
a) Unimodal- a set of data in one mode.
b) Bimodal- a set of data with two modes.
c) Multimodal- a set of data with more than two modes,

For further understanding of our topic. I prepare an

activity for you to do. But first I need to divide you
into 3 groups.

From your group, you must choose your leader and

presenter of your group work. As you can see
around the room, there are three station, namely
“mean”, “median” and “mode”. The first group
will go to the station mean, second group will
proceed to station median and the last group will
take the station mode. Everything about your task
is already indicated in your respective stations.
Remember that you must only pick your group’s
task. In every station you only have 2 minutes to
finish it or if you hear my go signal it means that
you need to proceed to the next station station. For
this activity your group work will be rated with this
following rubrics.

While answering your activity, consider these

guide questions. Please read John. Guide questions:

1. What is
measure of central
tendency?
2. What is mean?
3. How can we
solve for mean?
4. What is
median?
5. How can we de-
termine the
median?
6. What is mode?
7. How can we
find mode?

17 ABSTRACTION Impressive class. Now, let’s go back to the guide
minutes and ANALYSIS questions. From that activity, can you now define
to me what the measure of central tendency is? Measure of central
tendency is a
statistical measure
that gives
information
regarding the
central location of
the score relative
to the entire set of
data.
It is a test which
computes a single
value that can
stand alone to
represent and give
description about
the entire score or
distribution.

Excellent! For us to understand more about

measure of central tendency, let us now talk about
the three commonly used of it. Let’s start with the
mean. From the activity, all of the group proceeded Power-
to the station mean. After following the instruction, point

quantities
observed divided
by the total
number of units or
can be called as
Average.

Steps:
1. Add all the given
values.
2. Count the number
of the given values.
3. Divides the sum
of the values by the
number of values.
Very good! Mean can be represented with this
symbol x . How can we represent the mean if we
are going to make a formula for it?
x=

Okay, let’s go back to our guide question, focus in

question 4, based from our activity lately, who can No ma’am.
answer question number 4?
Median is the
middle score in
the ordered list of
values.
Very good! What do you mean by ordered list of
values?
Arrangement of
data in an
ascending order or
descending order.
That’s right. What are the steps in finding median?
How can we determine median if there is even
amount of numbers? Steps.
If the distribution
is odd;
1. Arrange the
values observed
from ascending or
descending order.
2. Find the middle
most number from
the arrangement.
If the distribution
is even;
1. Arrange the
values observed
from ascending or
descending order.
2. Find the two
middle most
numbers from the
arrangement.
3. Add the two
number.
4. Divide the sum
of the two
numbers by two.

Awesome! Do you have any question about

median? No, ma’am.

Okay. Let’s talk about now the last measures of

tendency, the mode. Going back to our guided
question, based from our activity who can define to Mode is the

occurs frequently
in the data or the
observation that
occurs more than
Excellent! And there are three kinds of mode to be once.
consider namely;
1. Unimodal- a set of data with one mode
2. Bimodal- a set of data with two mode
3. Multimodal- a set of data with more than
two mode

Steps;
1. Arranged the
observed values
from ascending or
descending order.
2. Find the most
frequent number
from the
arrangement.

Do you have any question or clarification about

mode class?
No ma’am.

2. Median = 90
3. Mode is 90

Who can summary of what we’ve been tackled this

morning? In this lesson, we
learn about the
three different

The median is the

The mode is the
value with the

count.
Very good Vanessa. Do you have any questions?
No ma’am.
Okay. Get 1 whole sheet of paper.

VII. EVALUATION

1. Define Mean, Median and Mode.

2. Compute for the measures of central tendency.

Noggy is a tricycle driver in a Barangay San Cirilo. He recorded his earnings (in pesos) for the past 15
day s and came up with the following data.

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday

Week 1 400 380 420 310 400
Week 2 370 390 325 400 425
Week 3 330 360 400 385 410

a. What is the average earning of Noggy per day?

b. What is the median in Noggy’s record of earnings?

c. What is the mode in Noggy’s record of earnings?

VIII. ASSIGNMENT
A. Solve for the mean, median, mode of the following data.

Weekly allowance of ten students

300, 400, 400, 250, 400, 150, 200, 350, 275, 350
