p a n t ; n i n e t y in the shade: over a h u n -

ture punishment under the metal roof
in the barn.
O u r h a r v e s t c a m e o n a l l a t once.
. T h e red w h e a t ripened first and was
cut. The field o f Dawson?s came on
d i r e c t l y after, and the early oats and
b a r l e y w e r e r e a d y f o r t h e b i n d e r even
before. As a result, w e spent nearly
& w e e k o f steady c u t t i n g and shock-
ing. A n d w h e n t h e l a s t sheaf of
s p r i n g g r a i n w a s set up, t h e w h e a t
?was r e a d y t o h a u l i n .
T h e N i a g a r a Red w h e a t w h i c h we
s o w e d l a s t f a l l a p p e a r s t o h a v e beer
w o r t h t h e t r o u b l e and expense w h i c h
w e r e i n c u r r e d i n s e c u r i n g t h e seed.
T h e t h r e s h i n g w i l l t e l l the tale, b u t
j u d g i n g f r o m the w e i g h t o f sheaf and
q u a l i t y of g r a i n , it appears to have
a decided edge on the Golden Chaff
w h i c h w e have sown f o r years. N o t
o n l y are the kernels bigger and p l u m p -
er but, j u d g i n g again, t h e i r w i l l be
several more loads of the N i a g a r a
Red. f r o m a field w h i c h is a h a l f a n
acre smaller. I t is a l l i n the barn,
