CHAPTER III

Methodology

This chapter reveals the methods of research to be employed by the

researcher in conducting the study which includes the research design, population of
the study, research instrument and its development establishing its validity and
reliability, data gathering procedures, and the appropriate statistical treatment of
data

Research Design

The researchers employed the use of descriptive survey method to

determine, describe and analyze the Impact of Poor Study Habits on Academic
Performance among Grade 12 General Academic Strand Studies in Samar National
School.

Research Locale

This investigation will take place in Catbalogan, Samar, primarily at Samar

National School. Interviews with the responses will take place anywhere that is
comfortable on the school grounds. Face-to-face interviews with the respondents will
be conducted. The location of implementation was chosen by the researchers since
it will enable them to acquire information as quickly and easily as possible. The
investigation will take place in the fall of the school year 2022-2023.

Respondents of the study

The respondents of this study were the Grade 12 General Academic Strand
students of Samar National School. The researchers employed Simple Random
Sampling, a form of sampling method whereby respondents were selected by
applying it. Total of fifty (50) respondents from chosen Samar National School
student make up the chosen respondents. The respondents are students of
Perseverance, Kindness, Justice, and Prudence. The researchers selected those
course sections since they are pertinent to the study and suitable for it.

Instrumentation

The research instrument used for this research was a structured

questionnaire developed by the researcher entitled “IMPACT OF POOR STUDY
HABITS ON THE ACADEMIC PERPORMANCE AMONG GRADE 12 GENERAL
ACADEMIC STRAND, STUDIES IN SAMAR NATIONAL SCHOOL Questionnaire”. The
instrument contains two sections, namely section A and section B. Section A
consists of personal information of the respondents, while section B sought
information on causes of poor study habits of students.
Data Gathering Procedure

A letter of request to conduct the study was prepared. The researcher

constructed a questionnaire checklist, validated by the teacher of the subject then
the questionnaire checklists are distributed. The researcher conducts the research in
Samar Narional School through survey, because of the advantages of the survey
method. The researcher explains to the respondents the importance of their
response to the study. The researcher clanties some terms to the respondents so
that the respondents can answer the questionnaire with full knowledge of their
responsibility as the subject of the study. The researcher requested the respondents
to answer with all honesty. The researcher believes that this method is the most
appropriate in choosing the sample for the research. After the respondents answered
the questionnaire, the researcher collected and tallied the data for interpretation. The
researcher asks a statistician to help in determining the appropriate statistical tools
to be used and in interpreting the data. Based on the data the researcher comes up
with conclusion and recommendations for this study.

Statistical Treatment

The data to be gathered in this study will be subjected to the following

statistical treatment:

FOR SPECIFIC QUESTION # 1:

The frequency of the each response will be determined on the number of the
respondents who will check in the particular item. The Demographic Profile of the
respondents will be determined by using the formula of percentage.

P= Fx 100 N

Where: P = Percentage F = Frequency N = Total Number of Respondents

FOR SPECIFIC QUESTION # 2:

Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient is used to measure linear

association between two variables. It will determine if there is correlation between
the job satisfactions of nurses to the delivery of quality patient care using this
formula:

N2xy - (2x)(Ly) xy[NΣx²- (Ex) [Ny² - (Ev)²

Where:

N = number of samples

X = first variable

Y = second variable
