Why Delaying Marriage (For Women) is Not Entirely a Bad Idea

This argumentation shall not be mistranslated to why women should not get married. I
personally think that marriage is a beautiful thing to do if it’s done at the right time. This
argument is made towards women who feel pressured by peer pressure to get married when she
herself is not ready yet.

 Claim : It’s beneficial for your career

 Data 1 : - “We estimate that delaying marriage increases hourly wages of women by
nearly four percent for each year they delay resulting in substantial differences in hourly
wages at later ages.”.
 Data 2 : “While wages of married college-educated men increase by 9 percent in the year
following a move, married college-educated women earn 7 percent less.”
( Loughran, David S., and Julie Margaretta Zissimopoulos. Are There Gains to Delaying
Marriage?: The Effect of Age at First Marriage on Career Development and Wages. Rand
Labor and Population, 2004.)
 Reason : Rather than being miserable realizing the fact that you have no male figure in a
romantical way, women can focus on their career instead for their better future.

 Claim : Better financial stability later on hence tiny chance of splitting

 Data : According to a new survey by Ramsey Solutions, money fights are the second
leading cause of divorce, behind infidelity. Results show that both high levels of debt and
a lack of communication are major causes for the stress and anxiety surrounding
household finances. ("Money Ruining Marriages In America: A Ramsey Solutions
Study". Ramseysolutions.Com, 2021,

marriages-in-america.)
 Reason : What comes with a great career is no other than decent financial stability which
obviously would help the family tremendously in living the day to day life.

 Opposition Argument : Some women married pretty early due to some inconveniences,
some married purely out of love and they genuinely think they are ready.
 Data : “Our main results show that female wage growth declines following marriage, but
that male wage growth is unchanged.” (Loughran, David S., and Julie Margaretta
Zissimopoulos. Are There Gains to Delaying Marriage?: The Effect of Age at First
Marriage on Career Development and Wages. Rand Labor and Population, 2004.)
 Reason : No shame on getting married when you feel like you want to. Its everyone’s
right. As long people have long term responsibility towards the marriage then I
personally think it’s fine. Also, as long at least one person making the ‘bread’ then I
would say that’s a great marriage. It is a relief knowing the fact that men remained the
same in terms of wage after marriage. But ladies but if we are faced with option, we
would love to have some extra money made by ourselves.
