Digital Revolution: Impact on Visual Graphics Design Education and Future Practices

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This research has a chief concern regarding the primary factors of digital revolution affecting

visual graphics design education at Rizal Technological University. To obtain all essential

knowledge, data and information, the research sought to answer the crucial question as follows:

1. How digital revolution has impacted visual graphics design education in RTU?

2. How technology has changed the tools and software used by the students of visual graphics

design?

3. What are the challenges and opportunities presented by digital revolution to be used for a

better future?

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH METHOD/DESIGN

A qualitative approach is used in this study. Qualitative research involves collecting and

analyzing non-numerical data (e.g., text, video, or audio) to understand concepts, opinions, or

experiences. It can be used to gather in-depth insights into a problem or generate new ideas for

research (Bhandari, 2020).

This study explores how digital media has impacted visual graphics design education and future

practices. Thus, this study is used case study as research design. Case study allows you to

explore the key characteristics, meanings, and implications of the case (McCombes, 2019).
POPULATION FRAME AND SAMPLING SCHEME

A non-probability sampling method is used in this study to meet the characteristics of the

needed respondents. In proportional quota sampling, the major characteristics of the population

are represented by sampling them in regards to their proportion in the population of study

(Nikolopoulou, 2022;2023).

The target population has a total of 70 respondents. 15 respondents from first year college, 15

respondents from second year, 15 respondents from third year, 15 respondents from fourth year

college, and 10 instructors teaching in BTVTED major in Visual Graphics Design.

DESCRIPTION OF THE RESPONDENTS

The respondents of our study are the BTVTED major in Visual Graphics Design students and

instructors in Rizal Technological University.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

In this study, survey is used to gather data. A survey is used to collect original data for

describing a population too large to observe directly (Mouton 1996:232). A survey obtains

information from a sample of people by means of self-report, that is, the people respond to a

series of questions posed by the investigator (Polit & Hungler 1993:148). In this study the

information was collected through unstructured questionnaires and structured interview.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURES

There are two procedures for the data gathering in this research. First would be a research

made survey questionnaires via google forms that we will distribute via messenger for

convenience. Second would be either a face-to-face interview or online interview, via google

meet or messenger, depending on the respondent’s choice. The researchers will start gathering

data when the letter of permission is approved. The flow of the data gathering will go as follows.
Firstly, we will find a respondent who meet the criteria of the research and asks for permission.

Then, we will let them choose if either interview or survey depending on their availability. After

collecting the needed information from the respondents, we will compile, interpret, and finally

analyze the gathered data to solve the problem of our research and provide recommendation.
