The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Council (NDRRMC)

identified 9,571 families or 37,231 individuals affected from Ligao City, Tabaco

City, and the towns of Bacacay, Camalig, Daraga, Guinobatan, Malilipot, and

Sto. Domingo. Along that are the displaced 4,602 families or 16,161

individuals and other evacuees.

President Marcos Jr. wasted no time and personally visited the affected area,

instructing government agencies to provide 90 days' worth of food and

non-food relief items to evacuation centers. The educational needs of

students staying in evacuation centers were also prioritized.

Volcanic Activities on the Rise: Experts Monitor Increased Activity and

Potential for Vigorous Eruption

The volcano's increased unrest is evident from the recorded 309 rockfall

events recorded in a 24-hour period and a higher number of volcanic

earthquakes.

Although the alert level remains at 3, indicating an increased tendency

towards a hazardous eruption, experts assure that there are no immediate

indications to raise it to level 4. However, the situation remains precarious as

Mayon Volcano could potentially transition to a more vigorous eruption.

Additionally, the number of volcanic quakes increased from one to six, and

pyroclastic density current events rose from one to seven, as reported by the

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

During a briefing in Legazpi City, the President issued orders for various

agencies to assist in providing livelihood opportunities for the evacuees who

might have to stay in temporary shelters for several months.

He also emphasized the importance of cleanliness and sanitation in the

evacuation centers.
The President together with other government officials conducted an aerial

inspection of the affected areas and visited the evacuation center in

Guinobatan where he distributed cash assistance, food, and hygiene kits.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also gathered

data about the number of affected families that were evacuated in Albay.

Results also showed the same proximity with NDRRMC’s previously

mentioned.
