After the installation is completed, the Network Duplex Speed set-

ting in the Tech Admin features will be automatically reset to the
Network Per- “Auto Detect” mode and may cause Network performance issues.
formance Make a note of the system’s Network Duplex Speed setting before
you begin the installation. Reset it to the correct value when you
have completed the installation.

Following this upgrade to systems below Vision 2007, TSPs (Quick

Saves) for some transducers should not be restored. Restoring
TSPs for transducers that have been re-optimized could result in a
TSPs loss of image quality. The system does not automatically restore
these settings. Appendix C: Re-optimized Transducers that TSPs
(Quick Saves) (Quick Saves) will not Restore provides a list of transducers that
were re-optimized. Inform your customers that they must recreate
their TSPs after the upgrade is completed. Systems with Vision 2007
or higher software will restore the TSPs correctly.

The BIOS password has changed in Unified Motherboard (UMB)

BIOS Pass- systems. The password is the same as the A, B, or C cart BIOS
word Change minus the last character (same as Vision 2007). The BIOS screens
also look different than previous versions.

You must have Uplink version 4.4 or higher installed on your com-
Uplink puter to perform this upgrade. Uplink version 4.4 is needed to gain
Required access to Tech Admin and generate passwords. Only Uplink 4.5 or
higher allows Direct Connect and download of software files.

The software detects UMB vs. non-UMB hardware and will auto-

Introduction

1 Introduction
Introduction These instructions describe the procedure for installing Vision 2008 (version 4.1.1.58) soft-
ware on an iE33 or an iU22, and apply to both UMB and non-UMB systems. The upgrade con-
sists of installing the new software from a DVD (1 disk for iU22 systems, 2 disks for iE33
systems) to the HOST and SIP modules, or to a UMB system. System hardware configura-
tions can be identified by using the information in Appendix A: Indentifying System Hardware
Type. Also, the software will determine the system’s hardware configuration and give you the
appropriate upgrade choices.
1. BEFORE YOU ARRIVE at the customer site, ask your customer to save, to a customer-
provided DVD, any patient images or exam studies that they will want to reload following
the upgrade. Saving patient images is time consuming and may add hours to the upgrade
process.
2. Determine the system hardware configuration (see Appendix A: Indentifying System Hard-
ware Type) and the size of the HOST HDD (see Appendix B: Checking the Size of the
System HDD). Non-UMB systems (carts A-C) that are below Vision 2008 require upgrad-
ing the HOST HDD from 80 GB to 250 GB before you can install the 4.1.1.58 software.

• SAMI systems (B.0 cart configuration).
• Revision 2.1 20" (widescreen) monitor system (without UMB) (C.0 cart configura-

• UMB (Unified Motherboard) systems with a single computer (D.0 cart configura-
tion; some systems have no service label).

FSEs should have no problem identifying currently released A.0 and B.0 sys-
tems. B.0 systems have a hardware label inside the back door that says "Hard-
ware Rev B.0". This has the SAMI hardware. The UMB and Revision 2.1
systems are more difficult to identify from the outside. They both have 20"
(widescreen) digital monitors. The easiest method to tell them apart is to look at
the AVIO where the cables are attached. These are quite different. See Figures

Appendix D: Hard Drive Cable and System Performance Issues

Appendix D: Hard Hard Drive Cable and System Performance Issues

Drive Cable and
Vision 2007 software has been designed to detect if the SIP hard drive cables
System Perfor- connected to the motherboard or Promise PCI PCB are installed backwards.
mance Issues The following error message will be displayed on the system at boot-up (and is
often seen after an upgrade due to new error detection capabilities in Vision
2007):

If you encounter this, verify the IDE connection between the motherboard and
the hard drive or the Promise PCI PCB to the hard drive. The blue connector
should plug into the motherboard or the Promise PCI PCB and the black one
should connect to the drive.

NOTE It is easier to see the color of the connector if you remove it.

Also verify that the BIOS is set correctly for the proper DMA performance.
Enter the BIOS and select STANDARD BIOS FEATURES then highlight IDE
PRIMARY MASTER and hit enter and the page underneath will open. The IDE
PRIMARY MASTER on that page should be set to AUTO or MANUAL. (you will
need a video card and keyboard to do this)

It is a good idea to check the IDE cable on the HOST computer as well. If it is
reversed, it will reduce the bandwidth. If you already have the system open,
simply verify that the blue connector of the IDE cable between the Host Mother-
board & Hard drive is connected to the motherboard & the black connector is
connected to the hard drive.

If you do not see the error message on boot up, you can verify the HOST com-
puter IDE cable by running the Test Host HDD utility in Tech Admin, Tests &
Utils, Service Toolbox. After you run the test, view the results by using the
right slide bar, and look for disk c bandwidth & RAID total bandwidth.

disk c bandwidth = ~42.66… ( + %4)

RAID total bandwidth = ~35.93… ( + %4)

If the values are ~ 30% lower than above, most likely the cable is installed incorrectly.

Appendix E: Accessing Tech Admin

Appendix E: Accessing Tech Admin

Accessing Tech This system's service tools/diagnostics are contained within the Tech Admin feature. Access to
Tech Admin is a two-step process for systems below 4.0.x.x.First you must activate a 3-day
Admin
license option, and then you must supply a password. This can be done either manually, or
through the use of Uplink. Following are the procedures for the two methods. The Uplink
method is the recommended method.
For systems at 4.0.x.x or higher, you can use your IST Smart Card to access Tech Admin. See
Method 3 below.
Method 1 (Uplink Automatic Method)
1. Do the following to use Uplink 4.4 or higher to activate and enter Tech Admin using
Direct Connect:

Connect a PC with Uplink to the system using a LAN cable.

Activate Uplink 4.4. on the PC.

Select the Uplink Direct Connect Mode (see Uplink Instruction Manual).

Press CTL-U on the system keyboard once Direct Connect Mode is selected on
PC.
2. Once connected, the License Option and Password will be automatically entered.
3. You can now access Tech Admin on the PC or on the system.
Method 2 (Manual Method)
1. Do the following to determine if the Tech Admin feature is active:
• Press the <Setups> key to enter Setups.
• Select the "Config/Test" button on the display.
• Look to see if there is a Tech Admin Tab on the top of the display. If one is not vis-
ible, you must enable a Tech Admin Temporary License Option.

2. Do the following to activate the Tech Admin License Option:

• Press the <Setups>key.
• Select "About" and then record the Chip ID: 00000_ _ _ _ _ _.
• Use Uplink to generate a 20 digit License Option code, or call RTAC for assis-
tance.
• Select "Config/Test".
• Select the "License Option" Tab at the top of the screen.
• Select "Enable Temporary License Options".
• Enter the 20 digit License Option code, and then select “SUBMIT”. The system
will reboot.
• After the system fully boots up, press the <Setups> key and then select "Config/
Test".
• Select the "Tech Admin" tab at the top of the screen.
• If you know the Tech Admin User Name and Password, enter them into the appro-
priate fields; otherwise, generate a Super User password by entering the "Key1"
information shown on the system's display into Uplink Super User Access Key
generator (or call RTAC for assistance).
Key1 Number: _____________________________________
SuperUser Password: _______________________________
• Type the generated key into the Password field and then select “Login”.
Method 3 (Using your IST Smart Card to Access Tech Admin/System Status)
1. Press the <Setups> key.
2. Select “Config/Test”.
3. Select the “Service Status” tab.

Appendix F: Setting the System to Full Power-Down

Appendix F: Setting the System to Full Power-Down

Setting the System
1. If, after setting the main power switch to the OFF position, the LED on the rear of the sys-
to Full Power- tem stays on, do the following to set the system to a full power down condition:
Down • Set the main power switch to the ON position.
• Turn on the system's power using the Standby switch

CAUTION! In the following Step, DO NOT press the Standby switch, only the main power switch is to be
used to turn OFF the system power. Using the Standby switch may cause the HOST and SIP
assemblies to become out of sync.

• Count ten seconds and then set the main power switch to the OFF position.
• Verify that the LED on the rear of the system turns off within one minute.

2. If the LED on the rear of the system is NOT OFF, go to Step 3;
