The Bee’s Sorrow

Read the text and answer the questions.

Once upon a time there was a very sad little bee. The poor bee did not have a single friend.
As soon as she was spotted in the neighbourhood, the village, the forest or the park, people ran
away screaming. As a matter of fact, it was her pointy stinger that they feared. After all, no one likes
getting stung by a bee!
Dismayed by this situation, the little bee went to visit an old caterpillar that lived in an apple tree
with a reputation for being wise. Propelled by her three pairs of legs, the little bee climbed the tree
to the spot where the old caterpillar could be found. The bee found the caterpillar crying.
“Why are you crying, Ms. Caterpillar?” the little bee asked.
“Since my birth, no apple has grown on my tree. I will remain a caterpillar until the end of my days
if I can’t eat apples, ” the caterpillar replied as she wiped her tears.
“I’m sad too,” said the little bee. “I have a stinger that scares everyone away.”
“Poor little bee! You have over 4000 eyes and yet you cannot see at what point nature has spoiled you.
You have two pairs of wings that make you agile, a long tongue for collecting nectar and a lovely yellow
and black dress. On top of that, you should be happy to have a stinger to defend yourself.”
Upon hearing these words, the little bee realized that she was indeed very pampered. To thank the
caterpillar for having boosted her self-esteem, she went to gather pollen from the apple blossoms nearby.
She then sprinkled the pollen on the flowers in the apple tree. A few weeks later, the first apples
appeared and the caterpillar transformed into a butterfly.
The little bee learned that she had an important responsibility: pollination. Without her, there would
be no fruits or vegetables, not to mention no honey. She became friends with the butterflies, flies and
bumblebees, to whom nature had entrusted with the same mission.
