communications. shall dispatch the Lifts as required. The SIO4 boards in this situation are
wired to the GroupSR Hall serial line. The 24VDC supply to the hall
calls must now come from the GroupSR board.

The lifts also have a serial cable between all lifts and the GroupSR board.

Group serial communication uses RS485 2-wire system. The three wires must be looped, wire
for wire in terminals G+, G- and GE betwenn all CarSR boards and the GroupSR boards.

The communications may be checked at the GroupSR board to see if the lifts are
communicating.

Counting
Counting Method “00”

The controller counts its position within the lift shaft using the DZ – Door Zone Input,
MSU – Magnet Switch Up Input, MSD – Magnet Switch Down Input, TSL – Top
Slowing Limit and BSL – Bottom Slowing Limit.
If the lift is stationary or running down and BSL input is removed then the lift shall reset
to the bottom floor and turn off slowing outputs if running down in fast speed.
If the lift is stationary or running up and TSL input is removed then the lift shall reset to
the top floor and turn off slowing outputs if running up in fast speed.
The shaft information at floor level must be as per the Counting Method “00” Shaft
Layout drawing in that the MSD and MSU vanes must be within the door zone.

If the lift was to leave the bottom floor in the up direction heading to the third landing it
would count as follows.
 Whilst travelling up fast all MSD out of the DZ shall be ignored.
 As the lift travels up fast and passes MSU vanes out of the DZ, the advance
count as shown by transistor outputs 1P-8P shall increment.
 As the lift travels up fast and passes DZ vanes the position count as shown on
the LCD shall increment. MSU and MSD vanes within the DZ shall be
ignored.
 As the lift advance counts, slowing shall be initiated if a call to the advanced
floor is entered prior to passing the MSU vane.
 When the lift is travelling slow into the floor the position count shall increment
when the DZ vane is entered. The lift shall remain running until both MSU and
MSD are on. LEV relay output turns on when MSU or MSD are on.

Counting Method “01”

Pulse Counting.

EEProm MSL setting “01”

Setup –
The controller counts its position within the lift shaft using the DZ – Door Zone Input,
MSU – Magnet Switch Up Input, MSD – Magnet Switch Down Input, TSL – Top
Slowing Limit and BSL – Bottom Slowing Limit.
If the lift is stationary or running down and BSL input is removed then the lift shall reset
to the bottom floor and turn off fast speed outputs.
If the lift is stationary or running up and TSL input is removed then the lift shall reset to
the top floor and turn off fast speed outputs.
The shaft information at floor level must be as per Counting Method “01” Shaft
Layout drawing in that the MSD and MSU vanes must be within the door zone.
Note: On a learn floor, if the MSU and MSD vanes are not in the correct order – the
position shall not be stored at those floors.

Learn Run.
To perform a learn run
 Ensure BSL and TSL operate to slow lift from fast speed.
 Set MSL to “01”
 Have all DZ, MSU and MSD inductors/magnets in place.
 Do not have any MSU or MSD pulses between floors as per setting MSL “0”
 To learn a floor scroll with the left button until you get to Floor Positioning – Now
use the “^” button to scroll through to Learn Floor and press [ENT].
 The cycle shall start first running the lift to the bottom floor.
 The lift shall then run to the top counting and saving the floor position data into its
address’s whilst running. As the lift passes floors you shall see the green LED beside
the watchdog flash to confirm the saving of the floor data.
 Once the lift has reached the top floor the lift shall revert to normal operation.

Variable speed selection.

On a run the speeds are selected after calculating the distance to the selected floor as
follows.
Pulses to get to Fast speed “StF” + Pulses to slow from Fast speed = distance required
for a fast speed run.
If this is not met then the medium speed test is performed as follows.
Pulses to get to Medium speed “StM” + Pulses to slow from Medium speed = distance
required for a medium speed run.
If this condition is not met then slow speed is selected.

Pulse distance table.

53
OPERATION

Settings – Stm (Start medium) is the number of pulses it takes to get to medium speed.

– Slm (Slow medium) is the number of pulses it takes to slow from medium speed.

– Stf (Start fast) is the number of pulses it takes to get to fast speed.

– Slf (Slow fast) is the number of pulses it takes to slow from fast speed.

For a fast speed run we require a floor height greater than or equal to Stf + Slf. This is the
number of pulses to get to speed plus the number of pulses to slow from the speed. If this
height (number of pulses) is not great enough for the fast speed the medium speed is checked.
Medium speed is checked the same way as fast – (Stm + Slm). If the number of pulses are not
enough for medium speed then slow speed shall be selected.

The Slm and Slf are the number of pulses the slowing shall be inisiated from the destination
floor.

54
OPERATION

Terminal floors- BSL and TSL drop out the fast speed which overrides Slf. These limits do
not effect medium speed. Depending on the medium – a additional limit at the top and
bottom may be required to drop out the medium speed.

Also – If the fast speed slowing is required more than a floor from the terminal floors
additional limits shall be required to drop out the fast speed. This is due to BSL & TSL must
not overlap other floors. This would cause the lift to set to the terminal floor. On a correction
run the lift shall perform a correction run to the lowest floor unless BSL is off. In some
circumstances the lift may require a correction run just above BSL. In this situation the lift will
take off on fast speed, then get its slow down very soon afterwards. The XTM and RTM
settings may be used to overcome this. If limits have been used to drop out fast speed the lift
shall run at slow speed and may not reach its terminal floor. In this case the lift would trip out
on the run timer and then run up to the Top.

Additional correction run features have now been added.

- If the lift is running and the safeties, locks or run timers trip the lift shall
require a correction run. This is due to the slide distance not being read. The
lift shall now correct its position passing the closest door zone.

- If the lift is placed onto inspection. The lift shall now correct its position
passing the closest door zone.

FAULTS – FAULT FINDING

8
Section

Section 7: Faults – Fault finding.

Upgrade Controller software.
Prior to calling for assistance
Controller software may be required to be updated depending on the version installed
and the options the lift has.
Whilst we try to make it as simple as possible for software upgrades, unfortunately some
EEPROM address’ may be required to be edited due to additional features been added.

It is recommended that the Service Mechanic that changes this software knows how to
change EEPROM settings and has a definition list for the new version being installed.

Leveling inhibit
A leveling failure has been added to stop the lift from re-leveling after 3 attempts of 4
seconds.
If the lift has DZ, MSU but not MSD or DZ, MSD but not MSU the lift shall re-level
until MSD & MSU are active. If MSD & MSU do not become active within 4 seconds,
leveling counter “f0” shall increment and run command outputs shall turn off. After the
minimum time between runs of 3 seconds, the lift shall retry. If the lift fails to get to
floor level after 3 consecutive tries leveling shall be blocked.
The leveling block shall not prevent a normal run.
After any normal stop, the leveling block and counter shall be reset.
Three status signals have been added.
LUP – Leveling up, displays on re-level up.
LDN – Leveling down, displays on re-level down.
LEV – Leveling blocked, displays on re-leveling failed and disabled.
This feature has been added to prevent a machine from re-leveling due to failures with
bypass, large loads, leveling with DZ & MSU or MSD failures with doors open, jammed
cars etc.

Run protection timer/counter “RPT”

The run protection timer has been improved to operate as follows.
If the lift run time exceeds 25 seconds without seeing a MSU or MSD pulse the run
counter “f1” shall increment and run command outputs shall turn off. After the
minimum time between runs of 3 seconds, the lift shall retry. If the lift fails to complete a
run after 3 consecutive tries, running shall be blocked.
A new status signal has been added to show the failure.
RPT – Run protection time exceeded.
This fault is reset by power-up.
RPT does not operate on inspection or Drive setting #01 (DA valve).

58
FAULTS – FAULT FINDING

Lift won’t re-level with doors open

The most common cause for this is the masking circuit.
Note: For this to operate correctly you require one of MSU or MSD inputs but not both.
This shall initiate a re-level, which shall be indicated by the UP or DN and slow speed
onboard relays to energize.
Also ensure lift is on operating mode normal.
We must ensure we have a circuit from terminal 16 through to M3. Check your links and
status of onboard relays.

If you have the supply to M3 and onboard direction relays up you can then check the
neutral side.
The neutral is also switch through a “LR” or “DZ” contact onboard. This switches “N”
through to M4.

On board fuse blows

There are 2 fuses mounted on the controller board.
The 2A fuse protects the 5VDC supply to all the logic on board.
The 4A fuse protects the 24VDC supply.

If 2a (5volt) fuse blows check 6V zener diode. (return for repairs.)

If 4a (24volt) fuse blows.

1. Test for fault on 24VDC circuit.
2. Check on board 30V zener diode. (return for repairs and re-test for external
faults.)
3. Remove all external plugs except 18VAC and 10VAC
4. Replace fuse. If fuse still blows. (return for repairs.) otherwise retest for
external fault.

Testing 24VDC..
1. Turn you meter to the HIGH VAC range.
2. Meter between 0v and Neutral. (Should be 0V)
3. Meter between 24VDC and Neutral. (Should be 0V)
4. Meter between 0VDC and 24VDC. (Should be 0V)

Doors close on park

If the doors close when keyed to park after EDP is opened you may require a software
update. Upgrade to latest Version software.

59
FAULTS – FAULT FINDING

Doors don’t open on a car call but do on a hall call at terminal floors
Ensure the MSD slowing is hit prior to the Bottom slowing limit. (BSL) also MSU before
TSL.

Lift gets out of step

1. If the lift gets out of step check the following.
MSU and MSD magnets must be within DZ (DoorZone) at floor level.
2. If lift resets incorrectly at top floor check TOP setting.

Lift misses hall calls

If the lift misses only some hall calls but answers car calls whilst on normal operation
1. Ensure SIS unit is mounted firmly.
2. Some magnets may have dead spots. Change faulty magnets.
3. Ensure software is latest Version.

Re-levelling wont operate

Check RLV setting.
