“Caged and Flightless”

By: Erl Casinillo

I remember the times when I used to cry

As I wailed to my mother about how I could not fly

My wings where clipped as I wondered the earth

Walking and running. Tell me now, what’s my worth?

They called me fast

Faster than an eagle

As I used to glide through the sky.

But now I’m a little

One day, came a man

With a long beard and frail skin.

He ask with a coarsed voice

“Who are your kith and kin?”

I pointed with a broken wing

Towards an olive tree

As I looked up at my parents

Don’t they look absolutely free?

“Temptation”

I ask of you to bare with me

Thine Devil’s punching vocabulary

To resist to its evil deeds

To halt doing what it please.

It’s a sign of pleasure, the obsession of gold

A pint of its story, totally untold

Their snares bleed your ears, one and then two,

They first take your hand, then completely grasp you.

As the light match midnight, getting dim

The snake reckons for you to follow him

Spare the rod for he is no mighty

Ignore the calling, and it shall flee.

Share with the divine the path to rightness

Stay with his most glorious righteousness

Overcome those needles of severe pain

To faith, shall come forward back to his name.

“A Mother’s Latement”

I’m telling you child You run to me, Mama I’m in love!

I heard this before Love? Child, what to you know lf it?

I see him holding your hand I’m telling you child

He says that he likes you, huh? I’ve been here before

And everytime he leaves He lures you into the night

You smile, sigh, and close the door I love you, he breathes, I need you

But is he really going home? But then one day he leaves too

I’m telling you child Why do you just ignore me, child?

I’ve seen this before I’ve been broken before

He’s lingering to kiss your cheek Your desolate spirit, pains me too

He claims his feelings for you have grown And I can’t help but weep with you

And every time he goes away I know that it’s a hard lesson to learn

You keep a vigilant ear out for the phone I tried to teach you, but fate preceded

How long do you think his attention will last? Child, my child ---- wasn’t it a lesson taught
well?
I’m telling you, child

I’ve felt this before

Those lips must feel warm on yours

This time, he says, this time I’m sure.

He’s whispering, you are the one

“Caverns of the Abyss”

I was lost beyond the dark holes

A figure looking into my soul

He stand still by the corner

The moment I saw him, I stiffen

And the hairs on my neck stood

I see nothing in the shadow but eyes

Golden orbs piercing right through me

As If I was shot by an arrow

I would have run, but the ground won’t let me

The mysterious man glows an uncanny aura

One that is greatly sin, he is so vague

Then suddenly he smiled at me

The odd gesture felt weird, yet so welcoming

Out of the blue, he spook two words

Words that sliced the attention in rusty atmosphere

Words that left me speechless in an instant

It was … “Follow me”

I follow the man curious to know my destination

But as soon as we arrived, everything went

Darker… and darker, and darker

And that’s when I realized, he led me to my death.
