QUESTIONS:

1. As the Container Store continues to expand and grow (the company has grown at an

annual rate of 20-25 percent), do you think the manager’s role in human resource

management should grow, shrink, or remain the same? Explain. Indicate what HRM

practices should be the responsibility of human resource management staff.

 The role of the manager in human resource management should grow in terms of

helping other HR staff to develop competitive skills and knowledge that will help

to continuously improve the performance of the company and with this strategy

HR manager can focus on other responsibilities such as to help the store

operation as a business partner and to build a future strategy to help the

company on maintain and also to increase the 20-25 percent annual growth rate.

The HRM responsibility should focus on attracting and recruiting potential

employees that will help the company, selecting the best employees that will best

fit the job and increase the productivity of the company, rewarding employees

that show a great consistent performance, evaluating performance of the

employees and also creating a positive work environment for employees to help

them become more productive.


2. Consider our discussion in this chapter of HR roles and competencies. What are the

advantages and disadvantages for successfully performing these roles by having

human resource management staff come from store level positions?

 Advantages of having a store level position human resource management staff is

that they have more knowledge about the different responsibilities of an HRM

staff. They can greatly increase the productivity of the company because they

have the skills that needed in HR department. The disadvantage of having store

level position human resource management staff is that sometimes the skills and

knowledge of that employees can be expensive that do not afford of the

company.

3. Should Container Store consider outsourcing any HRM practices? Which ones? How

might they determine which ones?

 Yes, they can outsource for compensation and reward on other company so that

the HR department can focus on other responsibilities. This will boost the

productivity of the company not only just by minimizing the work of the HR

department but also, they can help on other things that will help the company on

planning and help to build future strategies for the company. They can also

outsource training of employees that will help them get a competitive and diverse

skill set and outsourcing for training and development of employees can be at

lower cost because they can examine the cost from different company and make

the right selection according to their budget
