Biomedical engineers

focus on advances in technology and medicine to

develop new devices and equipment for improving human health

The design and development of active and passive medical devices, orthopedic implants, medical
imaging, biomedical signal processing, tissue and stem cell engineering, and clinical engineering

Artificial joints, breast implants, and cochlear implants

To support, enhance, or replace damaged tissue or a biological function

The study of human movement including the interaction between the participant and equipment

They design and build devices and systems to meet a wide range of needs that can assist
individuals with mobility, communication, hearing, vision and cognition

Cell and tissue engineering centers on the application of physical and engineering principles to
understand and control cell and tissue behavior

They are important because at the early design stage, materials may achieve some
of the required functions.

Know how many materials your product will use, identify the material requirements including
performance, aesthetics and cost, and prototype and test using different materials and manufacturing
techniques.
