LABORATORY REPORT
1. Certain cross reactants have been implicated as a cause of spuriously elevated 17-OH Progesterone in
premature and sick newborns. Of the several possible metabolites, 17-OH Pregnenolone sulfate has been
identified as the most significant interferent in the assay .
2. 17-OH Progesterone exhibits diurnal variation in adults, samples should be drawn between 8 am and 10am.
3. 17-OH Progesterone values for women with late onset congenital adrenal hyperplasia have been found to
overlap with those encountered in hirsute, oligomenorrheic women who donot have this disorder. Hence, it
is advisable to determine ACTH stimulated 17-OH Progesterone levels in women suspected of having late -
onset congenital adrenal hyperplasia.
