Chatper “To Hester’s eye, the Reverend Mr. Dimmesdale exhibited no symptom of
Significant : 11, 16 positive and vivacious suffering, except that, as little Pearl had remarked, he
kept his hand over his heart.”
Actions and
other stuff
Which shows that he has guilt when he saw Pearl which reminder him the
affair he did which was a sin

“The minister looks haggard and feeble and moves listlessly as though he has
no purpose or desire to live.”

At that point he feels like there’s no point in living since he did a sin that went
against his beliefs which he feels like he failed on god.

“He scourges himself with a whip, he fasts, and he holds extended vigils,
during which he stays awake throughout the night meditating upon his sin.”

This quote from the book proves dimmesdale trying to clean himself from the
sin which was the affair by self punishment which is beating himself with a
whip.

Significant Chatper “Trusting no man as his friend, he could not recognize his enemy when the
Statements 10, 12, latter actually appeared.”

Which shows that Dimmesdale can’t tell if Chillingworth is his enemy since he
believes chillingworth who is a physician at the time is an healer rather than a
enemy

“A pure hand needs no glove to cover it.”

This proves that a person is honest and truthful; they have nothing to hide
therefore making them a pure person.

“This feeble and most sensitive of spirits could do neither, yet continually did
one thing or another, which intertwined, in the same inextricable knot, the
agony of heaven-defying guilt and vain repentance.”
Insight into The action and statement provided by shows Auther Dimmesdale is a type of
Character person that uses wise sentences but he himself doesn’t follow them since his
hand’s are clean and pure since he made a sin with Hester and he doesn't
Provided by
want to confess since he fears over being hanged over but it’s a cowerly thing
Action
to do since I’m pretty sure pearl is is child.
and Statement

Personal My personal reaction is that Dimmesdale is an evil person since he’s a leader
Reaction to that has his beliefs and rules on god in which he breaks them by having an
Character affair with Hester which he doesn’t take honesty to the fullest since he doesn’t
even confessed that he’s the father of pearl even though he can be hanged it’s
off to die with honest than to live in a lie.
