PCA-Choosing an Organization Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization.

The organization I am choosing is Starbucks. This is a well known coffee company.

They are well known for the wide variety of drinks that they offer on their menu. They
are also known for their excellent customer service. This gives Starbucks a great
reputation and a reason for customers to continue to consistently come back.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

Until recently, I worked at Starbucks as a shift supervisor. I worked for the company for
roughly three and a half years. I am very familiar with the way Starbucks operates and
functions within their business.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think the will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

In April, we had a meeting that was a few hours long. This meeting went back to the
fundamentals of everything about Starbucks’ mission. This meeting included everything
like the way we should act when there are problem customers, to what we should say
when people walk in. We even went over all of the drinks, even though we all knew at
this point how to make all of the drinks. We played games where we came up with
different scenarios, how we would react to those scenarios, and the correct answers to the
scenarios. The point of this meeting was to give everyone a reminder about everything
that we need to be practicing on a day to day basis. According to the four frames
presented by Deal and Bolman (2021), I felt that the strongest frame present within this
meeting was structural. This meeting felt as though it was reminding us about the way
Starbucks is structured and how we should work within its structure.
