What are NUMBERS?
A NUMBER is a mathematical object used in counting and measuring.
If you count your ears, you will come to 2 and if you count your toes,
you will end with 10. We have different sets of numbers and let’s start
with the natural numbers, which are 1, 2, 3, 4, ....and so on. These
natural numbers go on forever, past a hundred, a thousand, a million, a
billion, a trillion and so on.

How do we represent NUMBERS in writing?

would be the largest number?

Ms. Abacus: There is no largest number! Because you can pick any big number you can think of and you can make
it a bigger one just by adding 1 to it. People used to think that the biggest number is INFINITY and
the symbol is ∞, however, INFINITy is just a concept that refers to a quantity that has no end, it
goes on and on...

Tips from Ms. Abacus:


You really have to count each upper bead as 5 to avoid mistakes. If I show you
my fist and ask you how many fingers hiding in my fist, you can’t tell there are 5
fingers in each fist until I open it. So remember the upper bead as your own fist
that hides 5 fingers in it.
