PUBLIC MARKET
A Public market is a combined open-air wet and dry
market that is scattered throughout the cities and
provinces in the Philippines. it is also called palengke
which was derived from the word palenques which
literally means palisade or stockade,

later by extending it became an enclosed

public space utilized in defense, public
festivals, and other purposes. palenques
are also described by the Spanish as a
pathway or clusters of tables set up
someplace of gather such as the like of
theaters, tournaments or markets public

Public markets also offer low-risk business opportunities for vendors, often from
vulnerable populations, and depending on the type of public market, they feed
money back into the rural economy where farmers grow, raise, and produce their
products. The spin-off benefits of public markets are numerous.Public markets
give local residents access to fresh, locally grown food, and often affordable organic
food, increasing the health of the entire community. They also become the centre
of a neighbourhood, instilling pride in the community
TRANSPORT TERMINAL
The metro manila urban transportation
integration study states that transport
terminals are indispensable facilities in
ensuring the
effectiveness and convenience of

other public transport network configurations

services enabling travel long-distance locations
since existing terminal areas were identified as
a serious traffic bottleneck.

Terminals may be points of interchange

within the same modal system, which
ensures continuity of the flows. This is
particularly the case for air and port
operations with hubs connecting parts of the
network. Terminals, however, are also critical
points of transfer between modes. Buses and
cars deliver people to airports, trucks haul
freight to rail terminals, and rail brings
freight to docks for loading on ships.

One core attribute of transport terminals is their convergence

function. They are obligatory points of passage, capitalizing on
their geographical location, which is generally intermediate to
commercial flows. Thus, transport terminals are either created
by the centrality or the intermediacy of their respective
locations.

Sia Siu, Glenn et al. in their study entitled "Parasitic

infestation in selected markets in metro manila Philippines
aimed to To assess the parasitic infestation of vegetables in
selected markets in Metro Manila, Philippines which concludes
to having theFindings indicate that vegetables can be potential
source of parasitic infection. There is a need to be vigilant in
ensuring that foodstuffs sold in our market systems are safe
and fit for consumption. using A total of 80 vegetables were
purchased from public and private markets in Munoz, Quezon
City, and Alabang, Muntinlupa City. Vegetables were washed,
and the washings were collected and examined for parasitic
organisms.

PUBLIC MARKET
RELATED STUDIES AND
LITERATURES
Nacua zhyllany et al in their study, Preliminary Analyses of Wastewater from
Selected Public Markets in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines states The scenery of
wet markets in Cagayan de Oro City is mostly filled with dirty environment as a
result of poor hygienic practices, mainly disposal of wastewaters. To extrapolate
the present wastewater condition this study was conducted, aiming to assess the
physicochemical parameters of wastewater samples from major public markets
in Cagayan de Oro City. Studied wastewaters were taken from Agora Public
Market, Carmen Public Market, and Cogon Public Market covering three months
– January, February and March of 2015.
Results were then compared to standards. Of all the parameters analyzed,
only the temperature, pH, DO and salinity were consistent and are within the
limits of DAO. Although they had consistent temperature, pH, DO and salinity
which met the DAO standards, they had high TDS, conductivity, and turbidity
which also contribute to poor wastewater quality. Therefore, each public market
must implement good waste management and wastewaters must be pre-treated
before disposal in order to ensure safety for the body of water receiving it.

PUBLIC MARKET
RELATED STUDIES AND

Vizon khryst Celine et al in their article titled "Contamination of food-borne
parasites from green-leafy vegetables sold in public markets of San Jose City,
Nueva Ecija, Philippines" states Vegetables contribute a significant portion of
the typical Filipino diet. Hence, it is a concern that based on previous studies,
vegetables could potentially act as vectors for parasitic transmission. This study
aimed to further investigate these occurrences by assessing the food-borne
parasitic contamination of vegetables sold in the public markets of San Jose City,
Nueva Ecija. A total of 288 vegetable samples (cabbage, lettuce and Chinese
cabbage) were collected from March to August 2018 in the wet market and
supermarkets of San Jose City, Nueva Ecija. Results showed that 116 out of 288
(40.28%) vegetable samples were positive of food-borne parasites such as
Ascaris sp., Hymenolepis diminuta, Isospora sp., Hookworm/Strongylid sp./free-
living nematode larvae, Strongylid sp. egg, Taenia sp., and Trichuris sp. Isospora
sp. has the highest contamination rate (16.67%) and mean density (13 eggs/g)
from the sampled vegetables. Possible sources of these identified parasites are
contaminated soil and water harbored by the sampled vegetables during
cultivation, transport and handling/preparation by vendors. Further studies are
needed to establish a more reliable information that could lead to public health
improvement and food safety awareness for the community.

Bayona elaine et al. stated in their study "Design Considerations for a Major
Terminal Facility in Metro Manila " Design Considerations for a Major Terminal
Facility in Metro Manila : One major terminal in Metro Manila is located in
Parañaque city, which is the South West Integrated Provincial Transport System
(SWIPTS), which includes the City Intermodal Terminal (CIT). The goal of the
terminal is to serve several public utility vehicles (PUV’s), which are going to the
province of Cavite and the cities of Metro Manila.
Having an integrated terminal would lessen the number of PUV’s that stops
at different points. Therefore, this paper outlined factors that could help
improve the existing terminal. This research is guided through the use of survey
questionnaires and volume counts, in order to produce the most appropriate
design considerations for the major terminal. Results from the surveys and
statistical analyses showed that accessibility and the number of public transport
routes being served were important factors. This study recommends that the
passengers should be prioritized in terms of having a more accessible and
passenger-friendly terminal.

Agaton Casper et al. in their study "Open AccessEditor’s ChoiceArticle
Socio-Economic and Environmental Analyses of Sustainable Public Transport in the
Philippines" Electric vehicles are regarded as energy transition technology towards
more sustainable and environment-friendly transportation systems. Despite the benefits
of reducing the dependence on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions, the adoption
of electric vehicles faces several obstacles ranging from financing issues, government
policies, and public acceptance. This study aims to identify the economic,
environmental, and social impact of the adoption of electric vehicles for public
transportation. Using the Philippines as a case study, the findings highlight the
economic advantage of investing in electric public transportation with high public
acceptance. The results further identify significant decrease in air pollution, reduction
of greenhouse gas emissions and encourage lowering the reliance on imported fossil
fuels by shifting the public transport from conventional to electric transport system.

This study recommends stricter implementation of government policies on

modernized public transportation, stronger government support on financing
mechanisms, establishment of charging stations in public and private terminals, and
boosting programs for developing local-made electric vehicles. To make electric vehicle
more environment-friendly, the government must accelerate the energy transition by
increasing the electricity share from renewable sources and investing in more
sustainable sources of energy.

Ranosa, Lovely et al. in their paper "Jeepney Service Operation and
Demand in Baguio City, Philippines" The jeepney is a very unique public
transport mode not only as a vehicle but also in the ways it is operated and
utilized by passengers. This paper presents the characteristics of the public
utility jeepney service operation and demand in Baguio City. The analysis
is made on the basis of various field surveys conducted. The rationalization
of color-coded trunklines (Red, Blue, Green and Yellow) of jeepneys
comprising 116 jeepney lines and associations and 4208 units are thought
to determine the exact number of vehicles on the road to complement the
carrying capacity of the city’s roads.

Results show that the average jeepney load factor computed is 0.82 or
82%, the average jeepney trips per day is 7.47, the average seating capacity
is 20.97. Moreover, the average speed of jeepneys is at 10.228 kph at an
average distance of 4.140 kilometers. The Aurora Hill and Trancoville lines
obtained the highest demand with values of 43,973 and 37,689 passengers
per day, respectively. This paper provides an initial analysis regarding the
demand and supply of jeepneys serving particular routes in Baguio City

In the Philippines, EVs are starting to gain
traction. From 2010 to 2019, there were 11,950
EVs registered with the Land Transportation

of December 2018, 19 charging
Office and as

stations, based on figures shared with Eco-

Business by the energy utilization management
bureau of the department of energy.

The bulk of EVs in the country are e-

tricycles and e-motorcycles, used to transport
passengers over short distances, followed by
electric utility vehicles like e-jeepneys or
modern versions of the country’s iconic mode
of public transport, as the government
launched a public utility vehicle
modernization plan four years ago.

There are 309 fully electric and hybrid private automobiles

afforded by an elite few, but this number is predicted to rise once
the proposed bill on EVs is signed into law, aiming to provide tax
incentives to ramp up the development of the industry. This
would also bring down the cost allowing more to buy, what is
currently, an out-of-reach asset for most.
