One pair each size 3.25mm [3 US], 4mm [6 US] knitting needles, stitch holder and 4 buttons.

CORRECT TENSION IS ESSENTIAL:

The success of your finished garment depends on tension. Check this carefully before you begin to knit. If there are
less sts to 10 cm [4 ins] than stated, your tension is too loose; use smaller needles. If there are more sts your tension
is too firm; use larger needles.

VEST: (worked in one piece to armholes)
With 3.25 mm [3 US] needles cast on
97(105,113,121,129) sts and work patt as foll.
Row 1 – K4, *P1, K1, rep from * to last 3 sts, K3.
Row 2 – K3, *P1, K1, rep from * to last 4 sts, P1, K3.
Rep the last 2 rows once more, inc 1 st in last row.
98(106,114,122,130) sts.
Change to 4mm [6 US] needles and work patt as foll.
AT THE SAME TIME make a buttonhole starting on row
1, working 3 more buttonholes every 4(4.5,5.5,6.5,7.5)
cm [1.5(1.75,2.25,2.5,3) ins] as foll.
With RSF, patt to last 3 sts, yrn, K2tog, K1.
