RIVER DES PERES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The River des Peres is a channelized river located in St. Louis, Missouri and empties into the Mississippi River. The River des Peres has been troubling for the city of St. Louis because it is used as a combined sanitary and storm water system. The waters that flow through this system are highly contaminated and cause problems for wildlife within the river itself, and downstream of the Mississippi River. In addition to the natural effects, many neighborhoods near the River des Peres are viewed as blighted and underdeveloped. My goal with this project was to cleanse the waters that enter this channel though a combination of natural and engineered systems while raising property values in areas near the river. Another goal was to make the waters more suitable for all sorts of wildlife and nature enthusiasts.

URBAN AGRICULTURE / PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This purpose of this project was to propose an area with in the Fargo-Moorhead metro area to provide organic vegetables to the area. This design concept consists of taking used and worn trash receptacles and vegetables in them with compost. Several greenhouses are installed to provide year round vegetables for the public. The receptacles are placed on trucks and transported to a farmers market and other locations where organic vegetables are needed in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

The Microsoft Office Buildings is a large industry in Fargo, North Dakota that employs many people. In addition to this they bring in people from their national headquarters for meetings and staff training regularly and came to us for designing a small community for local and national employees. The objective for this project was to implement sustainable and green technology practices into this site. All of the buildings here have geo-thermal heating and cooling as well as solar panels for power. Like most villages, there is a community center for social gatherings and activities. A lake for the nature enthusiasts, and several designated areas for growing produce.

With the information discovered through analysis and the reliance on cars decreasing in the Lower Queen Anne Bicycle Exchange System, this space provides multiple opportunities to accomodate to those locals and those passing through. The goals for the this design are listed below: 1. To accommodate landscape amenities such as tables and chairs to provide as an outside dining area for the local restaurants. 2. To reduce outside noise through buffers and creating white noise. 3. Provide a sheltered area that can be used to protect users from rain or sun.
