AUTOMATION AND CONTROLLING OF AUTOMATIC FLOOR CLEANER

A thesis Submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of the degree of

Bachelor of Technology In Mechanical Engineering By Rajaranjan Senapati

ABSTRACT

Automatic floor cleaner is a compact robotics system which provides floor cleaning service in room and
big offices reducing human labor. Basically as a robot it eliminates human error and provide cleaning
activity with much more efficiency. If we clean the floor manually then there is a possibility that the
operator will leave some portion of the floor. Also due to manual labor involved this is time consuming
and irritating to clean the floor. Also in big offices floor area is very huge and the people involved there
for cleaning purpose cannot clean it much more efficiently. This is where the robot comes as an
advantage. Also the robot is small and compact in size. So we can carry it and place it wherever we can
on the house. Also in industries the robot is very cost effective as compared to manual labor involved.
The flexibility, time saving and efficiency make the robot a clean choice for cleaning the floor.

Abstract - With the advancement of technology, robots have gotten more attention of researchers to
create lifetime of mankind easy. The actual project presents the look and development of Floor Cleaning
Robot using IEEE Standards. Developing Bluetooth controlled mobile robot. Scan the obstacles ahead of
the robot and to avoid collision when the robot is in motion. Raspberry Pi3 is that the main component
won’t to control the cleaning robot. An ultrasonic sensor which transmits the ultrasonic waves from its
sensor head and again receives the echo waves and sends its output to the Raspberry Pi3. The ultrasonic
sensor is connected with the servomotor, which helps within the rotation of ultrasonic sensor. The
ultrasonic sensor measures the space between the robot and therefore the obstacle ahead of it. The Pi3
model will stop the robot immediately and also the buzzer are actuated. The moping operation will be
started or stopped at any point of your time as per the need. The moping brush is actuated by the DC
motor fixed thereto. Signal to the present motor is fed by the controller. An LCD displays each and each
operation applied by the robot. Buzzer is an audio signalling device that provides the indication of
operating status of the robot.

Abstract: Robots are being extensively used in various fields of work. They have taken over dangerous,
boring, and monotonous jobs. While cleaning is still done with the help of maids and janitors in
institutes and big building complexes which strains and tires them. Hence the need for an autonomous
floor cleaning robot. The existing floor cleaning robots are bulky and are not very user-friendly. They
tend to be on the expensive end. Our project aims at providing a solution at lower cost, better
integration with the help of IoT and better overall user-friendliness.

Abstract: With the advancement of technology, automated floor cleaning machines are getting more
attention of researchers to make life of mankind comfortable. The concept is developing in economic
countries but the reasons for non-popularity is the design complexity, cost of machines, and operational
charges in terms of power tariff. In this paper, a semi- automated floor cleaning machine is proposed.
This is capable of cleaning floor effectively in dry as well as wet cleaning tasks. This floor cleaning
machine is designed by keeping the basic considerations for reduction in cost and efforts while being
environmental friendly and easy to handle. The machine will work on electricity and will consist of
simple fabrication .This work can be very useful to improve the life style of mankind.

Keywords: Semi-automated ,floor cleaning machine ,dry and wet cleaning , reduction in cost and efforts,
electricity ,simple fabrication.
