1834803 - Disable logging of changes on customizing tables

Component: BC-CUS-TOL-ALO (Activity Log), Version: 8, Released On: 29.03.2023

Symptom
You plan to disable the logging of changes on customizing tables, because you are concerned about performance issues and
massive database growth in table DBTABLOG.

Environment
This KBA applies for all SAP Products based on NetWeaver and S4H.

Cause
If you enable table logging, all customizing tables will be logged by default. It is not possible to enable logging only for one or
some tables.

Resolution
Only customizing tables will be logged by default. The content of customizing tables will not be changed very often in a
running system. Therefore there should be no high system load, or a massive database growth in table DBTABLOG. It
is not necessary and not commended to disable logging for all customizing tables.
In rare cases a high number of logs is created also for customizing tables. Follow manual instruction of SAP Knowledge Base
Article 2335086 to determine tables with the highest number of logs.
Decide internally, if logging of those tables can be disabled. Consider legal requirements, obligation to preserve records and
standards of the companies quality assurance system.
Disable Logging for a single table:
1. Start transaction SE13
2. Enter the table within field Table/view name
3. Press button Change
4. Confirm the information with Enter
Make repairs in foreign namespaces only if they are urgent
5. Untick flag Log data changes
6. Press icon Activate
Disable Logging for several tables:
Until release SAP_BASIS 731 use the procedure described in SAP Knowledge Base Article 2164574
As of release SAP_BASIS 740 use the procedure described in SAP Knowledge Base Article 2341818
Please note: If you change the content of table field DD09L-PROTOKOLL without activating the technical settings, the
runtime object of the corresponding table will become inconsistent. Please use the procedures described above.
