MICHAEL JACKSON
Michael Joseph Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana (USA) on August 29, 1958. He was a
successful singer, songwriter, dancer, music producer and philanthropist. He’s known as the
“King of Pop”, during his four-decade career, his contributions to music, dance, and fashion,
along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture.
He could sing when he was only five years-old and he debuted in
the musical group made up of his older brothers (Jackie, Tito,
Jermaine and Marlon) and managed by his father Joe Jackson, the
group was called The Jackson 5 and . Being part of this group, he
sang hit songs like “I Want You Back”, “The Love You Save”,
“ABC”, “Never Can Say Goodbye” and “I ‘ll be There”. While he
was in the group The Jackson 5, he began his solo career, from 1971
to 1975 he released four studio albums on the Motown record label,
such as "Got to be there" (1971), "Ben" (1972), "Music and Me"
(1973) and "Forever, Michael" (1975).
In 1976, Michael and his brothers moved to Epic Records
and the group was renamed The Jacksons. During that time,
Michael performed many hits like "Enjoy Yourself", "Shake
Your Body", "Blame It On The Boogie", "Things I Do For
You" and more. Later in 1979, Michael released his fifth solo
album "Off The Wall", with hits like "Don't Stop ‘til You
Get Enough", "Rock With You" and "She's Out Of My Life".
In 1981, Michael Jackson was the American Music Awards
winner for Favorite Soul/R&B Album and Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist.
In 1982, Michael released his sixth solo album,
"Thriller," the best-selling album in music history. It was
the album that established Michael Jackson as the King
of Pop. He performed hits like "Wanna Be Startin'
Something'," "Thriller," "Beat It," and "Billie Jean.".
Then in 1983, Michael performed at the Motown 25th
anniversary, together with his brothers he sang hits by
The Jackson 5 and later he performed his most successful
song, “Billie Jean”, in which he first performed the famous “Moonwalk dance”. Then he
released the music video “Thriller”, which caused the album to be the best-selling. In 1984,
Michael Jackson won eight Grammy Awards for his work on "Thriller," finally, he resigned
from the group The Jacksons in the middle of the Victory Tour.
By 1987, Michael Jackson released his album Bad,
however, he was beginning to suffer from a skin disease
called vitiligo, which caused his skin to turn white. On his
Bad album, he sang hits like "The Way You Make Me
Feel", "Man In The Mirror", "Smooth Criminal" and more.
Months later, Michael began his first solo tour, called Bad
World Tour, traveling through different continents of the
world such as Asia, Europe and North America. The tour finished in 1989.
In 1991, Michael released his eighth album "Dangerous", sang such
hits as "In The Closet", "Black Or White", "Remember The Time",
"Heal The World" and more. Then in 1992, he started the Dangerous
World Tour, including concerts in Latin America until 1993. Then in
1995, he released the double disc "HIStory: Past, Present and Future",
in which the first disc includes hits from previous years and the
second disc includes new songs such as "Scream", "They Don't Care
About Us ", "Earth Song", "Childhood", "You Are Not Alone" and
more. The following year, he began the HIStory World Tour until
1997.
In 2001, Michael released his last album "Invincible"
which was not one of his most successful but had hits like
"Cry" and "You Rock My World"; this album did not
include its own tour, because it was canceled. Finally in
March 2009, Michael Jackson announced his return to the
stage with the This Is It tour, however he passed away a
few days before its release. Michael Jackson died of
respiratory arrest on June 25, 2009. His death was caused
by a propofol overdose. After his death, Sony Music released two posthumous albums: Michael
(2010) and Xscape (2014). Nonetheless, Michael Jackson will continue to be the greatest artist
of all time.
