Internship Directory
Internship Directory
Balraj Chauhan
I am elated and proud to release the ‘Internship Directory’ prepared by the Internship
and Placement Cell of DNLU, Jabalpur, for the students of B.A, LL. B (Hons.) and LL.
M (II year) programme.
Internships are significant part of the modern legal education in India. To be more
precise, a holistic legal education cannot be confined to the four walls of a classroom
with a classroom teacher. In order to critically appreciate the functioning of law,
students need a meaningful exposure of the legal system to which they are being
theoretically exposed to in a university space. This exposure can be given to them by
providing them opportunities to intern at various institution, legal departments, offices
of learned Judges and Advocates, Law firms, Non-Governmental Organisation,
Research Centres, Corporate houses etc. The Bar Council of India also prescribes
‘Internships’ as a mandatory clinical course in its Rules on Legal Education.
The Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur, since its inception, has taken
the clinical exercise of Internships seriously and hence under the University rules,
students here are mandatorily required to undergo internships at the end of every
semester and viva-voce for the same is also organized periodically with the involvement
of Practioners, Advocates, Academics and Researchers as external experts.
To further the spirit of informed learning, this effort of the Internship and Placement
Cell (IAPC) would keep the students aware about the contact details of various
organisations and bodies for pursing their internships. At this juncture, I congratulate
Mr. Utkarsh K. Mishra, Assistant Professor of Law and Faculty of In-charge of IAPC,
Ms. Shruti Tiwari, Placement-cum-Public relations Officer and their talented and
vibrant team of student members who made this humble effort possible. I also
congratulate Dr. Shilpa Jain, Associate Professor of Law for providing her esteemed
guidance in Internship related matters.
I wish you all, all the best for your future endeavours!
Happy Interning!

INTRODUCTION
A. WHAT IS LEGAL INTERNSHIP
A legal internship is a period of time (usually 4 weeks, with or without stipend) in which a law
student can gain work experience in the legal field by working with:
i. NGOs
ii. Research Organisations and Research Centres
iii. Trial or Appellate Advocates
iv. Academic Institutions and Centres
v. Office of Learned Judges
vi. Legal Regulatory Authorities
vii. Legislatures
viii. Legal Functionaries
ix. Corporate Houses
x. Law Firms
xi. Any other organization with opportunity to learn or observe application of law.
Interning will stand out on the students ’resume and help them with their job search after
graduation. Interns gain on-the-job training that integrates education and career development.
Everyone the students meet during the course of their internship is now a contact. These people
can help guide their career path as they make their way into the professional world. These people
know other people in the industry as well and can provide introductions. The fellow interns they
meet may also become great contacts in the future.
