Noncommunicable diseases like heart disease, cancer, diabetes and mental disorders are some of the most critical health concerns in the 21st century. These illnesses claim the lives of 15 million people prematurely each year, with 85% of deaths occurring in low- and middle-income countries. Unhealthy lifestyles and environments contribute significantly to the growing burden of noncommunicable diseases. People often suffer from these diseases due to behaviors like consuming unhealthy, highly processed foods and smoking, as well as living in areas with high air pollution.

What are some of the most critical health concerns we face
in the 21st century, and why?
We are all aware that health is more than simply the absence of sickness or illness; it is a condition of whole physical, mental, and social well-being. In 21 st century, countries worldwide are facing various health problems that affects the lives of every individual. It is clear that our society's primary health challenges are currently numerous and complex. The noncommunicable diseases such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cancer, and respiratory disease, as well as mental disorders are some of the health challenges that compromised the health of every human being. Noncommunicable disease and mental disorder are still an increasing concern for society and governments due to their high mortality rate. In an article of Chisholm et.al (2014) it was stated that last 2011, such illnesses claimed the lives of 15 million individuals prematurely (before the age of 70 with low- and middle-income nations accounting for 85% of these deaths. Moreover, 80 percent of the years people live with disability are the result of noncommunicable diseases, especially mental and behavioral disorders. With that, we can conclude that up until in 21 st century a lot of people are still suffering from this disease.
There are several factors contributing to the growing burden of
noncommunicable disease and mental health issues. It includes unhealthy lifestyle and harmful environment. Although these diseases can be prevented and mitigated, many people are still suffering from such diseases because of the consumption of unhealthy foods and smoking. Individuals are fond of eating foods that high in salt, fats, and sugar which affects their blood pressure, blood sugar and potassium levels unknowingly damaging their organs. A person's health is also impacted negatively by the environment, for example, exposure to air pollution in metropolitan areas can cause respiratory diseases to develop in the lungs.
