Research is creative and systematic work undertaken to increase the stock of knowledge. It

involves the collection, organization and analysis of information to increase understanding of

a topic or issue. Research is conducted in particular issue or topic that the researcher wants to

study. This is to be done in a precise and systematic manner to look for new knowledge,

skills, attitudes and values, or for the re-interpretation of existing knowledge, skills, attitudes

and values. Researcher task is to gathered some informative information, analyze the data and

also to study the results they gathered.

 A research problem is a question that researchers wants to answer or a problem that a

researcher wants to solve identification and formulation of a research problem is the first step

of the research process. Selection of research problem depends on several factors such as

researchers knowledge, skills, interest, expertise, motivation and creativity with respect to the

subject of inquiry. It is believed that most of the good research studies need a lots of time for

selection of a research problem .

According to kerlinger , a problem is an interrogative sentence or statement that asks what

relation exits between two or more variable. The answer to question will provide what is having

sought in the research

In conducting research the researcher will allocate plenty of time to complete the study. They

need to gathered a data by going to the community or library to produce some data. They need to

add some more hours or weeks before the scheduled deadline because there are some things that

take more time than what is planned, and there are some part in research work that are more

difficult than what the researchers expected.

R.S. Woodworth defines problems as a situation for which we have no ready and successful

response by instinct or previous acquired habit. We must find out what to do ;i.e. the solution can

be found out only after investigation

In other words a research problem is an area of concern where there is a gap in the knowledge

base needed for professional practices

Many researchers in our country also face the difficulty of adequate and timely secretarial

assistance , including computer assistance. This causes unnecessary delays in the completion of

research studies. All possible efforts be made in this direction so that efficient secretarial
assistance is made available to researchers and that too well in time. University grants

commission must play a dynamic role in solving this difficulty

In other schools, most of the time research work they found to be the tiring work but the all the

researcher can’t get away with this because this is one of the requirements in academic task.

Similarly, in conducting a researcher must have interest of doing it. A research study cannot be

completed when there are no respondents. Respondents are the ones to give their perception and

answers on the issues in the study. At this point the researcher must have built a friendly

relationship with the respondents for the success of the study. But there might be a problem in

relating with others, because the respondent who supposedly answer the given questionnaire will

refuse to do it.

In Phinma Araullo University, many of the students feel threaten when they hear the word

research because they always think it is hard to do, and one of the hardest task they will received.

Also they already feel drained because of the money they will need to pay when they need to

print or revised their study and also the time management they need to do properly for them to

complete the task but the problem is, the 4th yr. student has so many task like the other subject,

their OJT and also their upcoming exam so there is so many obstacle they need to face while

conducting the research.

Research work requires time. It is rewarding when the goal to finish on the target date. A

researcher needs to manage time properly for them to complete the study on time.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

 This study aims to determine the problems encountered of 4th year college students while

conducting their research.

Specifically it seeks to answer the following questions:

1. What is the demographic profile of students

1.1 Age

1.2 Gender

1.3 Civil Status

2. What is the assess impact of conducting research in their other academic college subjects

2.1 Lack of focus to other subjects

2.2 Failing Grades

2.3 Lack of Time Management

3. What are the other factors that affect the students while conducting their research?

3.1 Other additional fees for research (Another separate fees for research)

3.2 It causes financial problem because conducting research is expensive

Hypotheses

The researcher will test the hypothesis.

1. There is no significant problem encountered by 4th year criminology college students in

conducting research of PHINMA ARAULLO UNIVERSITY.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

1. The Setting

The researcher will conduct the study at PHINMA ARAULLO UNIVERSITY.

2. The Subject Matter

The researcher will assess the Problems Encountered by the 4th year college student in

conducting research at PHINMA ARAULLO UNIVERSITY.

3. The Respondent

The researcher will select the respondent from the selected 4th year criminology student at

PHINMA ARAULLO UNIVERSITY.

4. The Time Frame

The researcher will be conducted for a period of two (2) semester
