Commas and semicolons both can separate phrases, clauses, or

sentences, but they are used in different ways

 A comma is used between a dependent clause and an independent


clause.
 Commas indicate where one phrase or clause ends and another
begins
 There are four types of commas: the listing comma, the joining
comma, the gapping comma and bracketing commas.

 A semicolon is used to put more impact on a statement.


 A semicolon is used to separate two independent clauses that are
related.
 Semicolons are also used to separate items in a list
