Question 1: The surface area of a cube is 337 cm2, find the volume of the said cube.

Given: 𝑆𝐴𝑐𝑢𝑏𝑒 = 337 𝑐𝑚2

Asked: 𝑉𝑐𝑢𝑏𝑒
Solution:
Surface area of the cube is defined as:
𝑆𝐴𝑐𝑢𝑏𝑒 = 6𝑠 2
where s is the side length of the cube (1)
Rearranging Eqn. 1 and substituting given value:
𝑆𝐴𝑐𝑢𝑏𝑒
= 𝑠2
6

𝑆𝐴𝑐𝑢𝑏𝑒 337 𝑐𝑚2

𝑠=√ = √ = 7.494442385 𝑐𝑚
6 6

Volume of the cube is defined as:

𝑉𝑐𝑢𝑏𝑒 = 𝑠 3 (2)

Substituting calculated side length into Eqn. 2:

𝑉𝑐𝑢𝑏𝑒 = (7.494442385 𝑐𝑚)3 = 𝟒𝟐𝟎. 𝟗𝟑𝟕𝟖 𝒄𝒎𝟑

Question 2: Find the volume of an octahedron with one side equals 49.01 cm.
Given: 𝑎 = 49.01 𝑐𝑚
Asked: 𝑉𝑜𝑐𝑡𝑎ℎ𝑒𝑑𝑟𝑜𝑛
Solution:
Volume of a regular octahedron is defined as:
𝑎3 √2
𝑉𝑜𝑐𝑡𝑎ℎ𝑒𝑑𝑟𝑜𝑛 = (3)
3
Substituting given value into Eqn. 3:
(49.01 𝑐𝑚)3 √2
𝑉𝑜𝑐𝑡𝑎ℎ𝑒𝑑𝑟𝑜𝑛 = = 𝟓𝟓𝟒𝟗𝟒. 𝟐𝟑𝟐𝟕 𝒄𝒎𝟑
