RING TYPE JOINT (RTJ) GASKETS

Ring joint gaskets are precision machined metal ring joints primarily used in high pressure oilfield applica-
tions, as well as on refining and processing plants, designed to be used in RTJ groove flanges and are
produced to dimensions as per API-6A and ASME B16.20.

RTJ Gasket Profiles

Oval and Octagonal
Oval and Octagonal section Ring type
Joints type grooves. These standard
shapes are used to seal pressures up to
5,000 psi in accordance with API 6A.

The Octagonal cross section has a

higher sealing efficiency than the oval
cross section and is therefore preferred.

The oval section ring joints were

originally designed for the now obsolete
round bottom groove. Both the Oval and
the Octagonal cross sections are
interchangeable on the flat bottom
groove design.

BX RTJ
BX Ring Type Joints are designed for
pressures up to 20,000 psi, suitable only
for use with API type BX flanges and
grooves. The gasket has a square cross
section with bevelled corners. The
average diameter of the ring joint is
slightly greater than that of joint is
seated, it stays precompressed by the
outside diameter, creating high seating

ideal for heat exchangers, autoclaves, columns, flue stacks, boilers, gas mains, valve bonnets, pumps and
similar services.

Metal jacketed gaskets are available in a comprehensive selection of materials and are custom built to
clients specific design requirements and are almost without any size limitations, should gaskets be
required to suit standard specifications, metal jacketed gaskets can be produced to ASME B16.12 and EN

METAL JACKETED
METAL JACKETED GASKETS

The most popular style for heat exchangers, the double-jacketed gasket offers complete protection of the filler
material. There is practically no diameter limitation, with greater compressability and resilience than a similar solid
metal gasket.
PDJA This gasket provides even support by the use of the overlapped jacket on the inside and outside diameters. Also,
the outside lap helps to prevent excessive distortion of light weight flanges.
The most common filler used is graphite. A wide range of metal and filler material is available if dictated by
temperature, pressure, or corrosive conditions.

The corrugated style has increased resilience with the benefit of a number of seal “points”. If a small leakage
occurs across the inside edge, the corrugations act as separate seals under moderate and even bolt loads.

PDJB

This gasket employs a metal filler rather than graphite or other soft material. The result is greater resistance to
problems resulting from temperature changes. The range of temperature is limited only by the metal selected.

PDJC

This gasket is generally used for applications where narrow width is required. The single jacket gasket with a soft
filler protects both edges of the filler material. It is an economical answer to many gasket needs. Single jacketed
gaskets are available with corrugated metal fillers.

PDJD

Affording the advantages of the standard double jacketed gasket, the double shell style allows greater strength
and rigidity by the addition of a completely overlapping inner shell. This gasket has a minimum flange width of
1/4”, and can be produced in almost any diameter. As with other heat exchanger gaskets, there is a greater
variety of available metals and filler materials.
PDJE
Products

A gasket with completely enclosed filler offering more filler protection than the standard single gasket. Especially
useful for applications requiring small flange widths (to 1/8”). Certain sizes may require tooling to produce.

PDJF

The two piece French Style gasket is more readily available and easier to produce than the one-piece French
Style which requires expensive tooling. The soft filler is exposed on the outside diameter and the minimum
flange width is 1/4”. Size of diameter is practically unlimited.

PDJG

This gasket combines advantages of metal shielding on the I.D. with a thick, compressable layer of soft gasket
material on either side of the metal. Metal thickness is 26 gauge, tack welded together and then rolled over on
the ID, acting as a shield. The layers of soft gasket materials are available in various densities and thicknesses.

PDJH
SOLID METAL GASKETS
While requiring a smooth flange face and high bolt load, the solid metal ISM1 gasket has numerous “plus” points.
It has great strength, good heat conductivity, and resistance to temperature, corrosion and pressure. There is
practically no size or shape limitation.
PSMA

This type of gasket is economical for a low-pressure seal on smooth flanges with low bolt pressure. Advantages
are low cost, lightweight and greater resilience than a comparable flat solid gasket. Temperature applications are
based upon the metal selected.
PSMB

In cross section, the ISM3 gasket incorporates a solid metal core with graphite foil bonded to each face. The
graphite facing layers are manufactured from high purity material to exact thickness and density, thus ensuring
that correct material compression can be controlled, vital in enclosed applications. This high quality graphite
material provides excellent sealing characteristics, readily flowing into flange imperfections under relatively low
applied loads, whilst the metallic core provides a rigid gasket construc- tion, vital for operating and handling
PSMC conditions.

DIE FORMED RINGS
Die pressing graphite seals ensures a strong density and sealability without the use of fillers or binders.
These pure graphite seals are reliable up to temperatures of around 430°C / 806°F and are resistant to
the majority of chemical media.

These can be provided with a chamfer to the inner or outer if required. Other optional extras include top
and bottom wiper rings and metal end caps. With in-house machine tooling facilities, we have the ability to
manufacture a tool to your specific requirements often on a next day or same day basis.

Die Formed Graphite Packing Rings which are produced from only high purity compressed flexible graph-
ite ribbon and are designed to provide a seal between a moving spindle or shaft and the pressurised
housing which it penetrates.

Die Formed Graphite Packing Rings are capable of providing a leak-free seal for high performance valve
applications at high pressures and temperatures typically between -240°C and 430°C / -464°F and 806°F.
For further stability under high pressure applications, metallic reinforcement or end caps can be added.

The nature of Die Formed Graphite Packing Rings ensures excellent chemical resistance and compatibili-
ty with virtually all media in the industry except only those with very strong oxidising agents.

We custom designs and machines tools ‘in-house’ and can press up to 24” diameter. The process of
manufacture provides an end product that is volumetrically stable and has no binders or fillers added
producing a seal with very low permeability and without porosity. These packing rings can be supplied in
square section, chamfered, split, matched halves and in sets with braided wiper rings.

O RINGS
O ring, a simple, molded, doughnut shaped part made of a single material could warrant so much atten-
tion. Because they are relatively inexpensive and very reliable they are one of the most commonly used
products in sealing applications.

Also known as a packing, or a toric joint, it is a mechanical gasket in the shape of a torus. A loop of elasto-
mer with a round cross-section. It is designed to be seated in a groove and compressed between two or
more parts. This creates a seal at the interface.

O RING SELECTION –
• The selection of a specific O Ring is based on a wide variety of factors that include:
• Fluid media resistance.
• Temperature range.
• Hardness.
• Durability.
• Gland size.
• Static or Dynamic application.

O RINGS, SIMPLE BUT EFFECTIVE

O rings are reliable and relatively inexpensive. This means they are one of, if not the most commonly used
products in sealing solutions.

O RING KITS

Imperial and Metric sizes.

Available in Nitrile, Fluoroelastomer (Viton™), Silicone and Neoprene.
Bespoke kits available. Tell us what you need and we’ll make up the kit.

O RING CORD

For times when standard sizes are not suitable for your sealing solution we can supply O Ring Cord. This
will enable you to make custom sized o rings to suit your application.
Sponge and solid.
Thickness starts from 1mm.

FEP + PFS ENCAPSULATED O RINGS

Either silicone or Viton O Ring with a seamless FEP encapsulation/jacket. The combination of these com-
ponents creates an O-ring that is virtually chemically inert.
Elasticity is provided by the O Ring and the chemical resistance by the FEP jacket.

often found in flanged pipe systems by eliminating metal to metal contact, static current is halted to
prevent corrosion and to aid in the cathodic protection of the piping system.

PG Phenolic
The PG Phenolic sealing/isolating gasket is designed for basic applications where electrical flange
isolation and corrosion control are required on pipes containing water/wastewater, gas, natural gas, oil
and other hydrocarbon.

PG GRE/Phenolic
PG GRE Isolation gasket kits designed for electrical flange isolation and/or general sealing applications.
This gasket is suitable for use in raised-face and flat-faced flanges in ANSI class 150 and 600 service (or
equivalent). In addition to providing electrical isolation, the gasket is excellent for isolating flanges made of
dissimilar metals or where prevention of flange face corrosion is desired.
The design of PG GRE incorporated overlapping and offsetting seal grooves. The purpose of this design
is to break each layer of laminate within the seal itself thereby creating a barrier through which fluid and/or
gas cannot migrate. The sealing element can be any elastomeric material as well as more sophisticated
Spring-Energized Teflon® seals.
°C
As a result of this advanced seal design, maintenance free flange isolation and flange face corrosion
mitigation are achieved economically. The PG GRE is available in both full-face (Type E) and ring style
(Type F) configurations.

Depending upon the sealing element selected, the PG GRE is rated for most all hydrocarbon and water
service applications.

PG Metal Core Critical
The PG Metal core critical seal is a high reliability system used for both isolating and general sealing purposes,
especially suitable in High Pressure services including ANSI 2500# and API 10,000# classes. The PG Metal core kit
consists of a PTFE spring-energized seal, or an isolating laminate, which is permanently bonded to a high-strength
metal gasket core. Sleeves and washers complete the isolating package. Due to its unique pressure activated sealing
mechanism, the gasket requires far less bolt stress to seal than any other industry gasket. The PG Metal Core inner
diameter is exactly matched to the flange bore to eliminate turbulent flow and flange face erosion/corrosion.

Applications
Flange isolation in conjunction with cathodic protection.
Isolation between dissimilar metals to prevent galvanic corrosion.
Wellhead isolation from inter-connected flow lines.
Mating mismatched ring-joint to raised-face flanges (HPG will seal in ring-joint, raised-face and flat face/slip-on flanges).
Eliminate fluid trap corrosion between ring-joint (RTJ) flanges where high concentrations of CO2, H2S and other aggressive
hydrocarbon media are present.
Eliminate turbulence and flow-induced erosion between ring-joint (RTJ) flanges.
Protect against coating damage on coated flange faces.
To seal between flanges subjected to vibration/cavitation.

PG HT
The PG HT flange insulating kit consists of an insulating gasket, insulating sleeves, insulating washers and
metal backing washers. The insulating gasket is constructed from serrated metal core, faced with PATMAX
700, a proprietary high temperature sealing material. Correct gasket location is ensured by the use of a
PATMAX 700H ring, located around the periphery of the serrated metal core.
PG HT high temperature flange insulation sets are specifically designed to create a seal and maintain
electrical isolation across a wide range of seating stresses and flange classes in elevated temperature
service. The PATMAX sealing material pushes the performance of the PG HT insulation kit beyond the
temperature capability of traditional insulation sets based on vermiculite or glass/epoxy sealing technology.

PATMAX is a mica based facing technology that is intended for extreme temperature applications and
outperforms traditional facing options which can fail at elevated temperatures. PATMAX can be used in
applications where there is a need for extreme temperature integrity.
