tires as the machine is trying
to penetrate the muck pile

• A worn bucket can lose as
much as 20% load capacity
per cycle. A 6.0 m3 bucket
can be reduced to a 4.8 m3

5 REASONS WHY SHARK™ GROUND ENGAGING
TOOLS
BUCKET LIFE EXTENSION
By using our SHARK™ Ground engaging tools bucket life can be extended up to three times, avoiding
premature major bucket rebuilds.

5
COST SAVINGS
SHARK™ Ground engaging tools can provide cost savings up to 45% during the total life of the bucket.
DOWNTIMES REDUCTION
With SHARK™ Ground Engaging Tools we can significantly reduce maintenance downtime and extend
change-out intervals.
PRODUCTIVITY OPTIMIZATION
By using SHARK™ Ground Engaging Tools we can maintain the original bucket geometry longer preventing
premature wear affecting optimal productivity through one pass loading maximizing each load.
OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS
Without SHARK™ Ground Engaging Tools, buckets are subjected to wear and tear impacting productivity
direct maintenance and indirect maintenance costs. Ineffective buckets can influence the drive train
components and influence fuel consumption and tire wear.

SANDVIK G.E.T. & BUCKETS
KGHM RUDNA MINE, POLAND

CUSTOMER SITUATION
Due to difficult hard rock mining conditions & abrasive
dolomite rocks, bare lip buckets were quickly wearing Play video
out. A lip replacement often leads to cost efficiency and
increased machine productivity.
For this reason, a total bucket concept was introduced
as a solution that would reduce maintenance costs over
the long term, but simultaneously benefit production.

SANDVIK G.E.T. & BUCKETS

Our total bucket solution has helped KGHM’s Rudna mine, Europe’s
largest copper operation, to reduce loader maintenance costs, optimize
productivity and minimize downtime – resulting in vital savings in today’s
volatile commodity climate. KGHM chose the integrated bucket ground
engaging tool (G.E.T.) solution from Sandvik for its ability to deliver
superior cost-efficiency over the long term.

HINDUSTAN ZINC LIMITED-AGUCHA MINE, INDIA. BUCKET LIFE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

CUSTOMER SITUATION
There are 13 Sandvik LH517 loaders in operation at the Agucha
Mines (including 8 spare buckets), all of which are subjected to a
high level of wear and tear. The Sandvik India G.E.T. team and
Sandvik team onsite at Agucha have been working closing with
HZL to develop a better understanding of their business and
investigate ways of increasing their loader productivity.
Studies indicated that the buckets were subjected to excessive
wear, with complete refurbishment required after 800 operating
hours. Lip plates wore out quickly, often cracking due to
the hard rock and difficult conditions

SANDVIK BUCKET LIFE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

In order to improve bucket life, Sandvik BLUE POINTER™, heel shrouds and
cast corners have been added to the bucket design. These amendments,
together with periodic maintenance and monitoring, have increased bucket
SMRT and Hindustan Zinc recently life to 2400 hours, three times the life of the bare lip bucket.

reduction in tire wear and tear due to less spinning/faster mucking cycle.
